They have enjoyed taking part in lessons and speaking with the children- for Sheiza, it is his first visit outside of Africa so the cultural exchange has been very powerful. Their grasp and use of the English language is fantastic, providing me with further motivation to develop my knowledge of the Swahili language. Yesterday afternoon, we attended a conference with the other partner schools and their Tanzanian visitors- over 25 teachers. We also had a speaker from the British Council Tanzania, who as an organisation, have provided us with a Connecting Classrooms cluster grant to heavily subsidise the link work we are doing. He has accompanied them on their entire trip, travelling from Tanzania specifically to write a case study on our link. Our discussions at the conference were about a joint project we will be undertaking over the next six months, with the theme of Climate Action. Careers week Over the last five days, we have also really enjoyed our Careers Week, an opportunity for the children to hear and learn about what people do for jobs and how they got into their chosen career path. The success of this week has been down to the generosity of such a large number of people who have given up their time to come and speak to and work with our children in school. Thank you very much! They worked in their Castle teams to design and make book marks. Each child had a responsibility and worked with determination and focus for their Castle. Dear parents and carers,

It has been a great pleasure to have Halifa and Sheiza, teachers from Chumbageni School, with us this week.

Parent Governor Election Following the recent election for Parent Governor, we are pleased to announce that Victoria Atkinson has been appointed as our new Parent Governor. Thank you to everyone who took the time to vote and also to both Vikki and Anna Hill for standing for this important role. It is vital to our Governing Body to have parent representatives and their input is very valuable.

Year 5 have been tending to the raised beds in our garden.

Charity walk Mrs Rendall (Year 1 teacher) and Emma Durant (parent at Somers Park) have signed up to do the Wye Valley Mighty Hike in September of this year, in aid of Macmillan Cancer Research. This is a 26 mile hike organised and run by Macmillan Cancer. FOSP Summer Fayre Update There’s only 3 weeks to go until the biggest FOSP event of the academic year - the school summer fayre. Planning is in the final stages but FOSP desperately needs volunteers to help set up (10am- 12 noon), man the stalls 12-2pm and clear away (2-4pm). To date, we have approximately 10 but need 40 to man the stalls so please help.

We also need parents from each year to sell raffle tickets in each of the playgrounds from the beginning of next week. We have some fabulous raffle prizes to be won - lots of great days out for the family. Tickets are £1 each. Don’t forget to bring in any donations of toys, books, cuddly toys etc to the KS1 Shelter on each Friday at drop off or pick up running up to the Fayre. Things can be brought in on the day as well. Please support us to make this a great success.
