Our natural and national parks

There is only one national park in Portugal . The National Park of Peneda Gerês.

And we have 13 natural parks all over our country

The Sintra-Cascais Natural Park

Situated very near our school, where we can have this fantastic view of the Pena Palace, was established as a Natural Park in 1994 by the Portuguese government .

It includes rhe Sinta mountain range but extends all the way to the coast and Cabo da Roca.

Sintra – Cascais: a paradise of nature

The main purpose of this park is to keep safe the fauna and flora of this blessed region.

The Park is divided into 2 distinct areas:

The agricultural zone , with its fruit and wine,and the coastal zone, with its beautiful beaches, cliffs, ponds and dunes.

In the Park there are diverse species of oaks, as well as eucalyptus and pine trees and all the exuberant vegetation of Sintra’s mountain range.

these are some photos of the gardens of sintra that we can visit. They are large gardens where we spend a few hours looking at the full calm beauty of the place

Typical fauna living in the park:

The park’s fauna is very diversified and we can easily come across rare and endangered species,, such as falcons, owls or hawks. There are also maritime birds like seagulls and amphibious species like salamandras and toads

A great variety of mammals, such as genets, moles and hedgehogs .
