What if your equation cannot be factored?
We can solve equations with x2 and we can solve equations that equal 0 and are factorable, but what about something like this?
x2+4x+5=0
We use a combination of both methods and force this to look like a Perfect Square Trinomial
What does a perfect square trinomial look like?
So how do we need to fix x2+4x+5=0?

Solving by Completing the Square
1) Make your quadratic look like a perfect square trinomial
*If you have a leading coefficient, you should get rid of it by dividing by it
*To find out what the last term should be, you can take the middle term and divide it by 2 and square it
2) Factor your perfect square trinomial into a squared binomial
3) Square root both sides
4) Finish solving it.
