NIAGARA BOTTLING USA RELIES ON SIDEL'S EIT™ SYSTEM TO IMPROVE THE EFFICIENCY OF ITS PRODUCTION By remotely accessing production data from five plants, Niagara Bottling LLC is making water run smoothly Smooth running vital to Niagara's success With substantial growth over the last few years and revenue nearing half a billion US$, Niagara Bottling’s secret lies in its unambiguous positioning, competing on low price for high quality. This continued success is down to what the company calls “vertical integration”: the smooth running of every detail of the process. “It’s one of our key competitive advantages,” says Rali Sanderson, Director of Engineering at Niagara Bottling LLC. Accessing data remotely, he is able to evaluate how the business is doing with regard to production targets. Automated root-cause analysis of faults “We bring in raw resin at one end and send pallets full of bottled water out the other." says Rali. "That means we might have up to 22 pieces of equipment integrated on each line. With so much going on, it’s easy to lose track of things. Sidel’s data acquisition system EIT™ helps us be better aware of it all.” How? EIT™ is dedicated to monitor line events/status and to help users improve production line efficiency. Rali considers the Efficiency Improvement Tool from Sidel as being the most effective system on the market. Smooth running vital to Niagara's success With substantial growth over the last few years and revenue nearing half a billion US$, Niagara Bottling’s secret lies in its unambiguous positioning, competing on low price for high quality. Flexibility of implementation is definitely a key advantage of EIT™EIT™ is a strategic asset for helping companies to improve line performance. In addition, its flexibility is definitely an added value on a reporting level - and also from an integration standpoint. The system can be implemented on any line irrespective of its line integrator or Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) - an advantage for Niagara, which, over time, has bought lines and machines from different vendors and manufacturers. With EIT Map and EIT Compare modules, Rali is able to analyse individual and comparative plant performances in even greater detail than before.

Actionable data for each and every level in the companyFollowing a pilot project intended to discover downtime reasons and calculate key performance indicators, EIT™ is now integrated to most of Niagara’s lines. Further EIT™ modules dedicated to quality control and loss analysis were also progressively added to get the most of third-party vision inspection systems equipped with automatic rejection capabilities. Using EIT™ provides actionable information to every level in the company. On the plant floor, operators get an extensive picture of the entire line. The maintenance department uses EIT™ data to carry out preventive actions, while management can quickly assess shift performance and the plant’s output. At executive level, yearly data is reviewed for benchmarking, optimising budgets, capital investment and vendor selection. The most valuable tool to Sanderson, however, is the Line Audit screen. “The filler is the machine that must be kept running,” says Sanderson. The Line Audit tool analyses what’s going on and pinpoints which machine is having a negative impact on the filler." Sidel’s EIT™ system has become a strategic component for Niagara Bottling in its quest for performance and sustainability.
