“I ran [Active Yield] in two machines last season (S670 and S680). I was really happy after selling all of our soybean crop. Those two machines were within .005% of bushels sold. You can’t even tell in the yield maps that there were two machines in the field. Usually when we run two machines in the field together, one machine always seems to be a little off from the other one, and I would have to mess with the post calibration to make a perfect map. But not last season.” - Platte Valley Equipment Customer Testimonial

Transform your current planter into a multi-tool capable of planting a variety of small grains and cover crops.

In May, we want fields dry for planting. In July, we wish we could have the water back. Managing both water infiltration and plant available water is key to keeping fields productive, mitigating drought and floods, and reducing soil loss due to water erosion. This can be accomplished by increasing the rate at which water enters the soil and the amount of water the soil can store, thereby decreasing runoff. Plant available water can be thought of as the water tank from which plants remove water. Water infiltration is the rate or amount of water that enters the soil. Cover crops and managing surface plant residues improve soil structure and soil organic carbon - both of which directly affect the amount of plant available water and water infiltration. Improvements won’t happen overnight, which is even more reason to start evaluating your residue management and cover crop options today.

Notice how the blue-dyed water infiltrates deeper around the rows where roots have created biopores

for water to travel into. Credit: CSIRO, Feb 2015 Sindelar, Michael, et al. “Cover Crop and Crop Residue Management: How Does it Affect Soil Water in the Short and Long Term?” Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources CROPWATCH, U of Nebraska-Lincoln, 13 Aug. 2018,

Helpful Hints for a Productive Harvest: Corn

Initial Harvesting Recommendations• Set deck plates in the mid range . Based on crop

conditions, incrementally open or close deck plates to optimize residue intake

• The corn head auger should be down and back

• Match variable feederhouse speed to ground speed to eliminate excessive trash intake that can limit separation

• Feed accelerator should be in slow speed (430 rpm) to reduce grain damage

• Ensure the round bar concaves are level

• Concave clearance should be set just so a shelled cob clears the 12th round bar of the concave

• Install separator grates spacers in lower position

• If the combine is equipped with active tailings ensure its clearance is in the corn position

• Cobdeflectordoorshouldalwaysbeengagedwithchopper in slow speed

Additional Tips for Increased Performance • Open the chaffer until shoe loss decreases or grain

tank sample is undesirable

• Close the sieve until the grain tank sample is acceptable

• Fan speed should be greater than 1,200 rpm

The following recommendations will help obtain optimal performance when harvesting corn. In this type of condition, a correctly configured combine helps to ensure the operator has best performance. * Suggested to always start with Harvest Settings application recommended settings

Rule of Thumb Increase rotor speed in 10 rpm increments

until separator loss decreases or grain quality reaches an unacceptable level

Corn

High Moisture Corn

Initial Harvesting Recommendations• Set deck plates in the middle of the range and

incrementally open or close deck plates based on crop condition

• Green leaves = auger up, dry leaves = auger down

• Match variable feederhouse speed to ground speed to eliminate excessive trash intake that can limit separation

• Feederhouse sprocket should be on 26T or 22T from service parts along with drum in the up position

• Feed accelerator should be in slow speed (430 rpm) to reduce grain damage

• Ensure the round bar concaves are level

• Start with slow rotor speed (350 rpm)

• Requires tighter concave clearance (close up until the cobs become broken) . Be careful because too tight will createbrokenkernels/fines.

• If the combine is equipped with active tailings ensure its clearance is in the corn position

• Cobdeflectordoorshouldalwaysbeengagedwithchopper in slow speed

Additional Tips for Increased Performance • Optional slow speed feed accelerator kit available

(320 rpm/770 rpm)- BXE10741 - MY16 and newer S-Series combines- BH81691 - MY15 and older

• Verify smooth side of feederhouse slats are facing the crop

• Install solid rear chaffer to reduce tailings- KXE10375 - Deep tooth (2012-2014 S-Series)- KXE10376 - General purpose (2012-2014 S-Series)

700C/FC High Moisture• Reduced risk of kernel damage when harvesting high

moisture corn• For the correct bundle number for each corn head size,

refer to the Agriculture Sales Manual• Auger Height Adjustment Kit

- BXE10973, BXE10974

The following recommendations will help obtain optimal performance when operating in high moisture (25%-35%) corn. This type of condition usually imposes a challenge to combine operators who want to achieve maximum threshing and separating of the corn while keeping the amount of “milling” or “fines” generated to a minimum. * Suggested to always start with Harvest Settings application recommended settings

Rule of Thumb Keep a tight concave clearance and slow rotor

speed while keeping the combine full

Initial Harvesting Recommendations• A tighter deck plate setting is preferred for more trash

intake and to minimize “butt-shelling”

• Raise the auger up and forward to get ears off the gathering chains quickly

• Corn head should be run just slow enough to be “leaning the stalks”

• Gathering chains should be staggered for standing corn

• Ensure the round bar concave is level

• Start with rotor is slow speed (330 rpm)

• Start with concave clearance 2 mm wider than cob diameter

• To reduce damage try to get as much grain threshed withthefirstandsecondconcave.Thisalsopromotesearly separation for reduced grain damage

• Install separator grates spacers in lower position

• If the combine is equipped with active tailings, ensure its clearance is in the corn position

• Cobdeflectordoorshouldalwaysbeinthecornposition with chopper in slow speed

Additional Tips for Increased Performance • Install 22-tooth sprocket to slow down the

feederhouse chain

• Optional slow speed feed accelerator kit available (310 rpm/770 rpm)- BXE10741 - MY16 and newer S-Series combines- BH81691 - MY15 and older

• Install rounded wear strips on the feed accelerator

• Reverse feederhouse slats and reinstall per the technical manual

• Install solid rear chaffer to reduce tailings- KXE10375 - Deep tooth- KXE10376 - General purpose

• Always try to control the grain tank, sample cleanliness withthefanspeedandchafferopeningfirstbeforeclosing the sieve

Specialty coarse crop growers are increasingly aware of the important role the combine plays in producing the highest grain quality possible. With the right configuration and settings you can deliver maximum quality in food-grade corn. * Suggested to always start with Harvest Settings application recommended settings* Equipment needs a minimum of 50 “break-in” separator hours to help smooth out all crop contacting elements

Soybeans

Initial Harvesting Recommendations• Adjust header angle for optimum cutting performance

- Too far forward and will push the crop

-Toofarbackandwillleavebeansinthefield

• Position the reel directly over the cutterbar and just low enoughsothereelfingersengagethecrop- Auger platforms – reel down and back- Draper platforms – reel out and up

• Adjustbeltspeedforsmoothcropflowontothe center belt

• Adjust HydraFlex™ pressure according to ground conditions (start at 1,300 for normal ground conditions)

• Rotor speed should be in high gear

• The feed accelerator should be in the low speed (430 rpm)

• Ensure the round bar concave is level

• Maintain proper ground speed so that the concave area is full

• If the combine is equipped with active tailings, ensure its clearance is in the corn position

• Cobdeflectordoorshouldalwaysbeinthegrainpositionwith the chopper in high speed

Additional Tips for Increased Performance• If600FDreeliswrapping,installflipoverkit

• If material is bunching up on the ends then install open guards

• Try using the lowest rotor speed that provides best threshing . Excessive rotor speed is the leading cause of grain damage

• Always try to eliminate unthreshed loss by decreasing the concave clearance before increasing the rotor speed

• Watch sieve adjustment – if it’s too tight it will cause increased tailings and grain damage

• Watch fan speed – if it’s too high it will blow the grain into tailings or out the back

The basic key to good quality harvested soybeans relies upon the operator paying close attention to the combine and taking the time to always observe/make adjustments. Try to harvest your beans at an “ideal” 14% -16% moisture. Anything above may require higher rotor speed which can cause increased damage. * Suggested to always start with Harvest Settings application recommended settings

Rice

Initial Harvesting Recommendations• Reel should turn slightly faster than the ground speed

• The rice feed accelerator should be in the high speed position

- 770 rpm for TriStream™ rotor

- 970 rpm for Variable Stream rotor

• Ensure the large wire concave is level

• Maintain proper ground speed so that the concave area is full

• If the combine is equipped with active tailings, ensure its clearance is in the corn position

• Cobdeflectordoorshouldalwaysbeinthegrainposition with the chopper in high speed

Additional Tips for Increased Performance • Install densepack threshing to improve material

handling

- BXE10020 - Variable stream rotor only

• Rice performance enhancement kit

- BXE10491 - MY14 and newer combines (spike caps and long threshing tines)

The following recommendations will help obtain optimal performance when harvesting rice. Rice is generally down, green, muddy and very abrasive which requires many special components and aggressive settings.* Suggested to always start with Harvest Settings application recommended settings
