    PIPELIFE INTERNATIONAL

    Soluforce is a high pressure plastic pipesystem designed and manufactured byPipelife Nederland B.V., which is part of the Pipeli fe International group of companies.

    Pipelife International GmbH is a globalplayer in the manufacture of plastic pipesystems with offices and productionfacilities in over 25 countries.

    Soluforce RTP (reinforced thermoplastic pipe) is a high pressureplastic pipe system for use in oil flow lines, water injection and

    gas transport, and can also be used in other pressureapplications such as potable or effluent water lines and

    irrigation.

    Soluforce can be used in on shore and off shore projects(shallow water).

    Soluforce is made of a polyethylene (PE 100) inner

    core, a reinforcement tape, and a specialexternal coating of white, UV resistant,

    PE 100.

    The reinforcement tape, which givesthe pipe its strength, is composed of different tape designs. The tapes givethe pipe different performancecharacteristics for a wide variety ofapplications and operational parameters.

    Soluforce can be connected using electrofusion couplers

    (in line couplers). This method uses a butt fusioninternal weld and an electrofused coupling weld. Thismak es a hermetic seal of extremely high quality. A nalternative method is to use two steel end flanges back to

    back. The steel end flanges are also used to connect theSoluforce RTP pipe to a steel pipeline.

    Soluforce RTP pipes are manufactured in two dimensions:4 ID, and 5 ID. However the flow capacity of the

    5 Soluforce pipe is comparable to the flow capacity of a6 steel pipeline.

    Soluforce supplies the RTP pipes on disposable woodenreels in lengths of 400 meters. The wooden reels can

    be economically transported worldwide.

    Soluforce Light has been designed for low pressure applications such asgas transmission networks up to 25 bars (360 psi).

    Soluforce light can be used with new installation methods such as cableploughing or deep trenching.

    Soluforce Light is ideal for beam pump oil flowlines operating upto 26 bar (377 psi) for the 4 pipe, and 21 bar (305 psi) for the 5 pipe.

    Soluforce Light can be used for potable/effluent water applications upto 36 bar (522 psi) for the 4 pipe, and 29 bar (421 psi) for the 5 pipe.

    IN-LINE COUPLING : PLASTIC

    1) The in-line coupling. A n electrofusion coupler speciallydesigned by Soluforce to resist very high pressures.

    3) The second step is to electroweld the in-line couplingover the butt-welded pipes The coupling gives the requiredpressure resistance over the butt-welded pipes ensuring aleak free connection.

    2) The welding process is done in two steps. The first step isto butt weld the inner layer of black polyethylene together.

    END FLANGE : METAL

    1) The end flange.The end flange is used to connect the Soluforce RTP pipe tosteel. The flange is made of A NSI 316L stainless steel.

    2) It is possible to use the end flange to connect twoSoluforce pipes. This can be done when it is planned for thepipe to be re-used in the future.

    3) The end flange consists of two parts : a stainless steelflange and a connecting plastic part.

    4) The plastic part is welded onto the Soluforce RTP pipe inthe same way as the in-line coupler.

    Soluforce can be installedburied or directly on theground without anyconcrete supports.

    Installed directly on the groundSoluforce is designed to survive desertweather conditions for 20 yearswithout maintenance. When buriedSoluforce has a design lifetime of 50 years for gas application.

    The Soluforce systemexcels by its swift andfast installation

    method. A n installation trailer is used touncoil the pipe. The installation-trailer is towed by any availablecar having the right pulling hookand pulling capacity for theon-site soil conditions. (A 4 wheeldrive is normally adequate).

    A n axle is pushed through thecentre of the wooden reel andthen the coil is loaded onto thetrailer by crane. A fter removal of

    the base pallet the pipe coil isready for un-coiling.

    The Soluforce pipe coils of up to 400 meters are packedon wooden disposable reels.

    O n easy terrain un-coili ng tak es only15 minutes resulting in the installationof 400 meters of Soluforce pipe.

    For hook-up of the Soluforce system toexisting steel pipes, the Soluforce pipe isterminated with an electrofusion end-fitting.

    A fter welding to the pipe the stainless steel parts,which mechanically lock on the Soluforce end-fitting,are put in place. A n NBR O -ring provides a leak freeconnection between the Soluforce pipe and the steelparts. T he steel parts incorporate a 6 600 poundA NSI 316 L dimension raised face flange. Now theSoluforce pipes can be connected to the existing steelpipe work like a standard flange connection. A ll weldingactivity is done using the Soluforce welding equipment.

    Soluforce RTP pipes areconnected using fullyautomatic welding equipment.

    Soluforce has a fully qualified installati onservice available and can train and certifywelders as requested by the customer.

    Electrofusion welding is a computercontrolled process with a fully integratedtraceable system

    The most economicalconnection of SoluforceRTP pipe to RTP pipe isthe specially designedin-line coupling.

    The most economical solution forconnecting Soluforce pipes togetheris the specially designed in-linecoupling. This gives an extremelyreliable and secure connection.

    TESTING, QUALIFICATI

    The whole Q A /Q C process from basic product design,through to testing to certification has been subject toindependent third party verification, to ensure easy qualifi-cation in different international, national and companystandards.

    Prod uct Design Verif icatio n

    The design of Soluforce pipe and fittings wasindependently verified by Det Norske Veritasand Shell Global Solutions.A ll possible failure modes were analysed, andthe design was adapted accordingly, to exclude,by design, any premature failure.

    Prod uct testing

    Long term testing was performed to verify the productdesign premises. From laboratory testing i t was proved thatSoluforce would stand the harshest of operating conditionsin an oil field and gas transport environments for at least20 (surface) and up to 50 years for gas applications(buried).

    Testing was performed according to recognized internatio-nal standards lik e ASTM 2992 (long term bursting pressu-re), ISO 9080 (long term bursting pressure as a function of operating temperature), EN1555 (European standards forplastic pipe for gas distrubution).

    O nce again, the in-house testing was independentlyverified by Det Norske Veritas.

    A fter laboratory testing, pilot scale trials were carried outfor a period of more than 2 years in a M iddle East oilfield.Pilot testing was supervised by Shell G lobal Solutions.
