The CONCOURS is just around the corner -May 18.  We are needing participants to register and volunteer!  Please go to clubregistration.net today.  Awards and prizes will be given. Jim 'N Nicks will have a good selection of food for purchase. Time is of the essence, register today!!!!    Our zone, Zone 3, is aware of our event so we are hoping some will come from other regions.

Erik Lund and others have been working hard to make it a success. They need your help.

Our next dinner social is May 14 at the Bavarian Bierhaus in Opry Mills Mall at 6:30. Mike Gillespie is trying to arrange special parking. Our next drive is May 25 through Hickman and Lewis counties with lunch at the Junkyard Dog. Don Wirth and Dan Martin have been doing an excellent job of planning and leading the drives.

Many have requested purchasing Musik-Stadt PCA clothing. We are fortunate Rick Arnemann has access to a good line of clothing that includes jackets, polos and fleece that will be embroidered with Musik Stadt PCA. However, supplies are limited therefore orders must be received no later than May 15!   It is not often we have an opportunity to purchase logo apparel. Go to harmongrp.com to place your order

If you are a parent or grandparent, that has a child or grandchild interested in cars, take note. Musik-Stadt is planning the "Pferde" Rally in October. We will be able to take 12 teams. Each team will consist of a driver, a licensed adult, and a navigator, the child. Ages for the navigators is 10-16. Watch for

more information in the future. Tentatively the date is October 26. This great idea is the brain child of Cherie Beatty.

As you can see, there is no shortage of events and activities to enhance your knowledge and enjoyment of your Porsche. Porsche, is a two syllable word!

It’s not an accident that the stations for service advisors sit behind the large glass wall that opens wide--winter, spring, summer and fall-- as if to say “ Welcome! We’re glad you’re here.” The fact that the slick architecture of the building and its movable glass doors means that the pair freezes in the winter, roasts in the summer, and get both windswept and drizzled on rainy days does not detract from their determination to give a genuine welcome.

The first impression of a dealership is arguably not the fleet of eye candy on display, but what happens after you make your purchase or more significantly what happens when you present a car you

haven’t bought from PON and begin to develop a service relationship in Nashville. That’s when you know what a dealership is really all about.

At PON, the two gentlemen responsible, not only for the impression but also for the reality of that experience, are Dillon Conner and Chandler Clay. With extensive knowledge of the brand, they are also the sorts of people who should be in a customer service position; they honestly value the customer, not just as clients but also as sharers in the love of all things Porsche. It shows in everything they do and in every interaction that they have with the people who approach their desks.

Case in point. Musik-Stadt wanted to revive the idea of a tech day in 2019. That means that the dealership was asked to make it possible on a Saturday. Anyone who has ever worked on a Saturday, in order to do a customer event, knows that enthusiasm for something like that can be well under control. Chandler immediately said, before being asked, “ That sounds great! I’d like to do it and I think Kevin ( one of the technicians) would like to be part of it , too.”

Just that easily, our tech session came into being around St. Patrick’s Day. It was well attended and well worth the time. Chandler and Kevin planned a program that they thought would be of interest to a wide variety of Porsche fans and made sure that everyone was caffeinated and bageled, at PON’s expense. Every question that was put them was answered on -site or got a follow- up reply. They gave us their Saturday with, not just a smile, but also enthusiasm.

Partners In Performance - Meet Porsche of Nashville’s Service Advisors

Originally from Detroit, the other motor city that is not Stuttgart, Chandler joined Porsche of Nashville in 2013 after completing the competitive entry Porsche Technical Apprentice Program in Atlanta. He became a service advisor in 2018, bringing his knowledge of what makes a Porsche run and work with him to the service desk. He jokingly tells people that he drives the highest mileage Cayenne in the Porsche world to work each day, having rebuilt it as a personal project. When he is not at work he enjoys mountain biking, working on his buddies’ cars, and also the Nashville country music scene. Ask him and he’ll tell you he enjoys working on the “Gentleman’s Sports Car” not just because of its styling but because of its every day ability to be used and perform.

The other part of the Service Advisor duo, Dillon Conner, is a native of nearby Franklin, TN. He came to PON in 2015 after graduating from the University of Tennessee in Chattanooga where he earned a degree in bus iness and entrepreneurship. Like the cars that he loves, Dillon is a bit of an all –a rounder. He skies, rides a motorcycle, loves to travel, and tracks his Cayman, a relatively new acquisition, that he dotes on. He also works the phone at PON with skill and an amazingly, always sunny, smile.

Listen to Dillon answering questions about any aspect of Porsche maintenance or taking the extra time to find an answer to an esoteric question ; watch him whisk people in and out of their cars and into loaners with no wasted time; observe him making even a peeved customer feel that no effort will be spared to make things right, and it is apparent that Dillon is doing exactly what he wants to be doing at this point in his life.

One of the things that excites him is the leap into electric technology that Porsche is making. “ Porsche is at the forefront of the future of mobility, whether it be with electric vehicles or record-breaking performance cars. I’m very blessed to be a part of it, “ he said.

If you haven’t already done so, stop by and meet PON’s service advisors. It’s worth a stop at the dealership to meet these partners in performance.

WERKSReunion - Our Excellent Adventure By S. Stewart and C. Beatty

Drenched with rain and depressed by gray weather, we decided that what we needed was a trip to Florida’s Amelia Island, there to bask in the sunshine and admire what promised to be a sterling line- up of all things Porsche. Neither of us could spare much time away; our ambitious plan was one day to drive to Florida, one day to spend at the Reunion, and one day to come home. Choosing the right travel companion for a forced march is essential. With one driver who knows how to navigate and move around a track, one driver who takes direction well and can happily sit for hours in place while driving, two people who can pack what is needed in one small bag, Musik-Stadt membership fielded a team made In heaven.

Both of us own 911s of about the same vintage—one is a daily driver 4S and one is a Carrera S best described as a diva. In fact, the Carrera S, which somehow managed to make an uneventful drive to Porsche Parade in July 2018, had spent much of the winter of 2018 into 2019 at Porsche of Nashville under the tender care of Shop Supervisor Nick Gwozdz. Over time, Nick meticulously tracked down the cause of the unpredictable, never- in- the- same- place twice, cylinder misfires that seemed to take place only between the months of November and February. Arriving at the ultimate solution (if anyone really cares about how we got there, explanations can be offered in person) that a change of oil from 5W-40W to 0W-40W was going to resolve the problem, the car was picked up on Friday morning, loaded on Friday

afternoon, and fresh from refit, detail, and overhaul, was ready to go on Saturday morning at 0630.

We had perfect weather and perfect road conditions for our first day drive and made only one major discovery—Sharon must stop and eat a decent meal, while I could get gas, pull through a drive- through window for food at whatever is closest to the gas pump, and never stop for any reason until I’ve arrived at the destination.

Eating real food, however, mattered to Sharon; driving together in close quarters is a matter of détente. Sharon was placed in charge of mealtimes. Wielding her iPhone, she discovered a place called Emil’s Bistro, just off the interstate in Macon, Georgia. (This kept me calm because we didn’t have to drive too far off the designated highway.) That’s how we learned that Goodwill Industries of America maintains a hospitality and cooking college as part of its technical college program operated in Macon. Who knew? The food was great and the opportunity to see young people learning a trade made for a pleasant hour off- road, while the college campus itself had a huge parking lot where our car was safe from being dinged by someone with a heavy door on a pick- up truck, the vehicle of choice in Georgia.

On the road again, we pulled into our rental unit in Jacksonville at about three in the afternoon, happy to discover that the little brick rancher had an enclosed single car garage just the right size for the 911. Said car, after months of being a pill, had finally been pressed into serious service and demonstrated that it was running like a Porsche should run. How did we reward it? After unpacking our meager duds, we hauled it out--sacrilege--twice in one day. It was mealtime.

A dash over the waterway and an imposing bridge to the quaint town of Jacksonville Beach brought us to dinner. There we looked around in amazement: no one was wearing rain boots or hauling an umbrella… in fact, they were all wearing flip flops, shorts, and had the suspicious beginnings of summer tans in March.

The next morning, warned that traffic into the staging area was going to be tricky, we made sure we were there at 7:30 AM with the idea that we were going to be stuck in a line. The Porsche crowd is OCD enough that most of them were there much earlier and we simply eased around the round -about, were directed by friendly volunteers and even friendlier sheriffs, and proceeded to park on the verges of a beautiful golf course that was waiting for us, along with 699 other cars, some to be judged and some simply enjoying being there. We were in the second category.

Enjoy we did. The area, as you would expect, has an abundance of naval aviators and many of them drive Porsches. One beautiful car was painted like a Blue Angel jet. We didn’t see the owner but the car was sporting a USNA plate surround and a vanity plate, and we certainly could admire the 550 horsepower and close to matching torque that was available. ( It’s now available for sale on the PCA website.)

We were also taken by the rally cars, several kitted out in flat black everything, including the Porsche shield and the welded- on rack with the spare tire atop one 911’s roof. There was an old racer that drew quite a crowd, some truly grand classics, one car sadly painted in psychedelic cobblestones along its side panels, and of course, we salivated over Mr. Oates’ (of Hall and Oates fame) 70th birthday present to himself, featured in a recent issue of Panorama.

Tantalizing at the end of the venue, ensuring that everyone made the trek to take a look, was what on closer look, appeared to be a replica 904, reminding everyone of Porsche’s racing legends from the 60s. We also saw a Porsche 911 completely kitted out with a carbon fiber body, some beautiful restoration work done by the Porsche company itself, and one Cayman S proudly placed for judging which had an information plaque that we both agreed was perfect for an exhibitor like our own Harald Melson. With the Musik-Stadt concours just around the corner in May, it reminded us that getting ready couldn’t start too soon.

We had a full day walking and looking, talking to other enthusiasts and chatting up a lady whose paper towels matched the paint job on the couple’s to- be- judged entry. She said that she had always loved to polish things and had simply moved her instincts for pristine housekeeping to the air-cooled 911. We also admired a 911 dressed in a rare paint-to-sample color, Vesuvio, that actually changed tint depending on how the light hit it.

The owner said at first he didn’t realize that the color was so rare. He bought the car as a second owner just because he liked it and he confided that when he first took it to PCA events he thought people were coming to look at it because it was a “chick magnet”, then sheepishly admitted he quickly realized they came to check out his paint, which was, as we were sad to tell him, what caused us to head his way, too.

We checked out the Porsche Pop-Up store, picked up espresso from the ladies dressed in black ( not wearing sensible shoes) at the Pirelli booth -- hey, free coffee is free

coffee—and l istened to informative presentations from a variety of speakers.

In the closing hours of the afternoon it was time for red wine and port, late lunch, and flourless chocolate cake while sitting under the shade of trees draped in Spanish moss. We watched the parade of cars being driven down the highway in front of Bistro Zin (not to be missed) and admired a gold Studebaker Avanti zipping by. It looked as if it had just come from the showroom.

After a day’s drive back to Tennessee , we were happy that we’d done it and were ready to go again. When winter blahs hit you next season, as they surely will, find a Musik-Stadt buddy and head to Amelia Island for a one day vacation, plus two days driving time. If you love to drive, you won’t be disappointed by your decision.

I also want to put out another call for volunteers (especially for the upcoming Concours in the Park)! Without participation from our membership this club does not exist! We have grown now to over 500 members which is awesome! This also means that there are a lot of great ideas that are simmering out there! Do not be shy in approaching any of the Board members if you’d like to lead a tour, start a new committee (e.g. Annual Banquet, Off-Road Tour, Charitable Events, Golf Tournament) or volunteer for an established event. We all lead busy lives, but we joined PCA because we all love the Porsche marque! Getting involved does mean a commitment of

l imited t ime, but the rewards from participation are worth the effort!

We all share the same passion for our cars (even all of you 4 door owners! ☺).This club isn’t just about the 2 door cars! We would like to have everyone engaged and participate as much as you can! Help us make this club more active because the more people get involved, the more fun we will have with our cars and the more friendships that can be formed…just because of a great marque we all share a passion for! Hope to see you soon!!

Keep on Pushing!
