Solarkote A acrylic resin capstock provides everything you expect from a cap material.
Vibrant color and gloss
Long-lasting appearance
Excellent UV protection for ABS substrates
Superior clarity, color and UV resistance versus ASA capstocks
Thin application thickness for improved economics while maintaining ABS impact
The performance features of Solarkote A acrylic resin capstock make it the materialof choice for typical capped ABS applications, including marine, personal watercraft, recreational vehicles, lawn/garden, building/construction, automotive accessories, outdoor enclosures, tubs, spas and pool accessories.

Appearance sells and Solarkote A acrylic resin
capstock excels in this regard. The rich, vibrant
appearance of Solarkote A withstands the test
of time and nature’s elements. The clarity, color
and UV resistance of a Solarkote A surface
are superior to that experienced with ASA
capstocks.The durability of a Solarkote A
surface ensures the long-lasting appearance
intended for your application.

The UV screening characteristics of Solarkote A
acrylic resin permit reduced cap layer thickness. Less
cap means improved economics and maintained ABS
impact performance. Six to twelve mils provide long-
lasting appearance and substrate protection superior
to that of conventional capstock materials.
Minimizing cap layer thickness maximizes regrind
performance. 5% to 10% Solarkote A cap (6 to 12
mils on 0.120" substrate) provides UV protection
with 90% ABS first surface impact retention at
rework levels up to 50%.
Impact Resistance
* Impact and regrind performance will vary with the level ofimpact modification of the ABS substrate.Application performancetesting is recommended.
The enhanced UV screening characteristics of Solarkote Aacrylic resin provide improved performance relative totraditional ASA and acrylic-based capstocks. UV protectionof the ABS substrate is accomplished with as little as 6 milsapplication thickness.Traditional capstock materials require2 to 4 times greater thickness for comparable performance.
Solarkote A acrylic resin is inherently colorless. UVscreening performance is accomplished while maintaininghigh visible light transmission.Transmission of visible lightpermits application as a clear coat for a high-end “wet”look. When used as a clear coat, Solarkote A continues to provide UV protection while transmitting visible light.Colorants used in the ABS substrate intended for clear coat applications need to be “visible light” stable for long term performance.
Solarkote A acrylic resin is readily colored. The transparencyof Solarkote A permits full rendition of colorants for aricher, more vibrant appearance than is attainable withASA. Contact an Altuglas International representative for recommendations on colorants and carrier systems for Solarkote A.

Solarkote acrylicresin is a combustible
thermoplastic. Observe fireprecautions appropriate for com-parable forms of wood and paper.
For building uses, check codeapprovals. Impact resistance is
a factor of thickness. Avoid exposure to heat or aromatic
solvents. Clean with soap and water.Avoid abrasives.
