I am currently recruiting for a Unix System Administrator contractor on behalf of a leading global Broadcastingorganisation. The role will be London based for an initial 3 month contract.

The successful candidate will ideally have an excellent understanding of the Solaris Unix environment and beexperienced using the command line. Extensive knowledge of standard system tools with the ability to use themautomate complex system tasks. Experience in a large network environments with good understanding of networfundamentals is essential as is knowledge of network file systems and storage options.

The ideal Unix System Administrator will have:*Experience with Solaris (9 and above) to manage the Solaris estate*Experience with Hardware (Oracle SPARC/x86/Dell/HP) analysis to identify break-fix and install should the nrequire.

*Experience with current versions of Debian and Ubuntu Linux is required as most projects are now using this.*A basic understanding of storage concepts.*Some Cisco IOS skills or and a firm understanding of network topologies and the OSI model.*Solid background in virtualisation KVM mainly, VMware knowledge also desirable.*Experience with the build, distribution, installation, and maintenance of Open Source tools. This could include ability to compile your own packages from source.*Ability to configure and manage the following services and applications: DNS (bind), DHCP, IMAP (dovecot)SMTP (sendmail), HTTP (Apache), SQUID, haproxy, IP Tables.*Shell Scripting knowledge (bash/ksh/sh) is a must.*SQL experience (prefer MySQL).*Knowledge of Directory services LDAP/NiS as we are due to migrate from NIS > LDAP.

Senior Solaris Administrator with a secondary role of AIX/Linux administration

Primary roll will be maintaining Solaris environment in a 7x24 environment

Symantec Cluster management including upgrades, maintenance and troubleshooting

Configuring and maintaining Solaris 10 Global zones and local zones in a cluster environment

Performance monitoring, tuning, finding bottlenecks

Problem determination and root cause analysis

Preparation, execution and planning of UNIX DR activities

Patching servers, firmware maintenance, operating system upgrades, and maintaining software stack

Driving issues that relate to operating system, and working with other GS organizations

Automation of daily tasks with scripts and Blade logic

Qualifications

Minimum of 7 years of experience in information technology with an emphasis on Linux/Solaris ServerAdministration in a production environment.
