SOLARAID
IN ZAMBIA and ARGENTINA,
Who Is SolarAid?The biggest problem facing
man today is poverty and
global warming. That is what
SolarAid I trying to stop,
simply by providing the
worlds poorest communities
with clean renewable energy
sources to help them. Right
now two billion people have
no access to electricity
making them rely on burning
wood and kerosene which is
harmful to the environment.
SolarAid provides them with
solar panels which also
enables them to do much
more
ZambiaThey are currently working in
Zambia trying to light schools.
This is a quote that one of the
SolarAid workers made
“I am currently working with
colleagues at Imusho School in
Sesheke district. With a
population of over 200 pupils
and set in the heart of Sioma
National Park, the lack of
farmland and industry means
that resources are few and far
between. In fact, Imusho is one
of the most rural schools I have
worked with. A full two days
travel from the nearest town
Sesheke; this is where they must
travel to collect resources such
as kerosene for conventional
lighting. Solar power will
enhance the classroom
environment and minimise the
need to make this journey.
Opening of a Renewable Energy Centre
Zambia
SolarAid is working on
training the Zambian people
to install solar panels
themselves. SolarAid will be
training up to 12 local
installers who are hoping to
install solar panels in 12
new locations identified by
SolarAid Zambia by the end
of may this year. This will
bring total number of
installations to 46, however
current funds that they have
raised from supporters just
like us have made them
able to install 76 solar
panels by mid 2011.
Solar roller
The solar roller is designed to be able to do more than the usual solar panel including being able to charge mobile phones and work radios.
They hope to use the solar roller to help power the very rural areas of Zambia.
Argentina
• In south America a
huge problem is
deforestation so
some familys don’t
have electricity so
that Is what
SolarAid is trying to
give them.
Jobs
• Many people in rural
south America rely
on farming as a job
and sometimes
don’t manage to
grow enough to feed
their familys. This is
why SolarAid is
looking to provide
new jobs as well as
electricity.
