What is SEIG?

• Goals of EPRI Solar Electric Interest Group – Share best practices with a network of knowledgeable peers– Participate in collaborative RD&D activities that help to define the

future role of solar energy in the utility industry– Enhance corporate experience and image as leaders in solar

applications– Stay abreast of advances in solar PV cost, efficiency, and

business models for power production– Better understand and define the role of central station solar

(CSS) in the future generation portfolio– Collaborate with industry organizations to develop joint projects

(e.g., CSS database, utility business models)

Solar Assisted Steam Cycles

• Conceptual design study and one or more detailed case studies to evaluate solar augmented steam cycles

• Focus on natural gas plants in first phase

• Case study includes solar technology review, site assessment, integration analysis, and development of generic plant layouts with workable drawings and schematics

• Generic proforma model to estimate cost of electricity for various operating scenarios and plant design options

Value:• Avoid fuel costs• Reduce emissions• Participate in renewable energy credit

markets• Meet renewable energy goals
