Lessons Learned

• The current program is offered in tandem between two divisions which has helped the resources to extend further but has also made class scheduling and management challenging.

• Budget problems have made it challenging to avoid class cancellations and ensure timely graduation for students.

• Release time for faculty to provide program coordination and advisory board support is needed to strengthen and sustain community partnerships.

• Strong advisory board participation in class presentations, course development and re-development and internship placements have kept the SCC Human Services program relevant to meet agency workforce needs.

• SCC Human Services program as acted a gateway program to develop future leaders in Human Services in a wide variety of Human Services in Solano County.

• Close linkage and partnering with campus/off campus student support services is essential to ensure that students with disabilities are successful in all phases of their educational process.

• It is imperative to maintain close contact with students via email/phone.• Staying connected with campus career center, fieldwork partners and potential agency partners is critical• Ongoing review of core program requirements is key to making sure the program stays relevant to both

student and employer demands. Adding course requirements related to computer skills, language courses such as Spanish are examples.
