SEVEN THINGS TO CONSIDER BEFORE SPECIFYING OR BUYING A SOLAR LIGHT SYSTEM1. What is the warranty and what does it cover?An industry-leading warranty covers critical system components including the PV module, hardware, pole, LED light engine, luminaire, electronics, and battery well beyond the typical two-year warranty provided by most electrical manufacturers. Beware of solar lights with two-year warranties or companies claiming 15-year warranties that only cover the PV module.

2. Is the manufacturer of the solar light really in the business of solar lighting?Solar lighting is a rapidly growing business with many resellers entering the business masquerading as manufacturers. The issue? Companies focused on reselling are operating with a minimum investment, which leads to some fly-by-night operations not able to supply technical and warranty support. SOL is a manufacturer committed to solar lighting with 20 years of experience in manufacturing solar lights.

3. Has the manufacturer been in business at least as long as their warranty?Seems silly to ask, but can you really trust a company to support your warranty claim if the business is two years old? In fact, one big warranty expense could end the business. SOL has been manufacturing reliable solar lights since 1990.

4. Is the light system backed by 24/7 technical support?Solar lighting is a very reliable technology. With no moving parts, solar lighting requires minimal maintenance. 5. Is the Light System configured for your location and your desired operation or is it one-size-fits-all?Solar lighting is configured for a specific geographic location and desired hours of operation. How much sun do you get, how rainy is it, will it snow, how long is the longest night? SOL knows these answers and configures a solar light that will work all year long for you.

6. Are complete technical specifications available?As a professional solar lighting system manufacturer, SOL has complete technical specifications. SOL provides CSI specifications, technical data sheets, installation and service manuals, MSDS, UL Listed and engineering approval for all of our systems.

7. Can the manufacturer provide an independent IESNA LM-79 photometric test report that validates the light’s performance?IESNA LM-79 test reports, performed by a third-party testing lab, are the lighting industry standard for evaluating how well a light will illuminate a space. In the absence of an independent test report one has to assume that claims of illumination and brightness are fabricated. SOL has photometric reports for all of its standard light systems and gladly provides additional copies or detailed photometric analyses using our light systems for your project, or directly from our website.

POWDER COATING

Long-life solar power LED lighting systems are designed for a long useful life. The powder coat or painted finish is no different. Using a highly controlled, environmentally friendly, and proprietary process, SOL’s systems feature an industry-leading 10-year powder coating warranty.

• Meets A.A.M.A. 2604-98/05, GSB and Qualicoat 2 specifications for impact, bending, hardness, weathering, light fastness, cross hatch adhesion, color change, gloss retention, humidity resistance (3,000 hour), and salt-spray resistance (3,000 hours)

• Applied to achieve a 4 to 7 mil thick coat and impact rating of 160 psf

• All material powder coated by hand with state-of-the-art paint guns

• Prevents tarnish, rust, patina or othernon-desirable finishes for over a decade

SOL provides solar light systems. In most cases our solar lights are mounted to poles. In an effort to provide seamless installation and delivery, SOL offers a wide variety of poles. Although not the direct manufacturer of the pole, SOL has partnerships with leading pole fabrication companies to provide a variety of reliable poles.

Why chose Aluminum: fairly light weight, high strength aluminum poles are fairly easy to ship and install. Aluminum poles are typically round and tapered and widely available.

Why chose Composite: light weight, high strength composite poles are easy to ship and install. Due to their strength and fast construction method they are ideal for solar lighting. Composite poles are excellent for installations near coasts since they will not rust or corrode.

Even though the best scenario involves never having to actually use a company’s warranty, we are proud to offer what we believe is in fact the BEST WARRANTY available in the industry, from a company that has been in business since 1990. SOL warrants the Owner (defined as the entity that has final title to the goods) of each new SOL lighting system to be free from defects in materials and workmanship and to perform under normal use and service. SOL will, at its option, repair or replace any system or system component that is defective in materials or manufacture within a minimum of five (5) years after purchase. *Batteries provided by SOL have a limited warranty providing for battery replacement (batteries must be provided by SOL), from the date of shipment, with the following pro-rated coverage:• 0 to 2 years: 100% credit (user pays 0% of the replacement battery price)• 2 to 3 years: 60% credit (user pays 40% of the replacement battery price)• 3 to 4 years: 40% credit (user pays 60% of the replacement battery price)• 4 to 5 years: 20% credit (user pays 80% of the replacement battery price)

SOL’s liability on any claim for damages arising out of or in connection with the manufacture, sale, installation, delivery or use of the unit shall not exceed the purchase price of the system. The purchaser assumes and will hold harmless SOL in respect of all such loss. For warranty service on SOL products please contact SOL for a Return Material Authorization (RMA) number by calling +1 (772) 286-9461. Any products or components that are returned to SOL without first obtaining an RMA may not be issued any credit, and SOL shall not be responsible for said items. This warranty does not cover damage or malfunction, as determined by SOL’s service technicians or engineers, due to abuse, misuse, incorrect installation, or accident such as, but not limited to:• Use of incorrect mounting hardware• Failure to follow operating and installation instructions provided by SOL• Failure to maintain & operate the equipment in accordance within all applicable standards & codes• Failure to maintain & operate the system under SOL’s specified operating conditions• Vandalism or theft• Fire, flood, “Acts of God,” and other problems beyond the control of SOL• Unauthorized or improper repairs or adjustments

• Labor costs to remove, service, troubleshoot, and install all or part of SOL systems, unless previously agreed to and authorizedIN WRITING by SOL by either the Inside Sales Manager, Quality Manager, or GM

• Equipment service, rental, and/or tools required to remove, service, troubleshoot, and reinstall all or part of SOL systems, unless previously agreed to and authorized IN WRITING by SOL by either the Inside Sales Manager, Quality Manager, or GM

• Components and equipment external to the SOL system• The cost of repairing or replacing property other than the SOL system• Equipment not provided by SOL

The use of any replacement parts (for any reason) including, but not limited to, electrical components, luminaires, or batteries NOT provided by SOL voids this warranty. This warranty is in lieu of all other expressed warranties and the implied warranty of merchantability is limited to terms of this written warranty. This warranty grants you specific legal rights, and you may have other rights which vary, based on your location.
