Hello Everyone

Spring is now here and the big word this time is NEW! We have some NEW groups starting that will help you feel fit, well and happy.

We have a NEW learn to swim group, a NEW gym group, a NEW just for women social and fitness group as well as a NEW gardening group. We have so many NEW things to do!

Our other groups are still on so there so much for you to do! Please come and take part.

Well done to CCP for their work to make sure that LD adults keep their Freedom Passes. A big thank you to all the volunteers that helped out with that successful campaign.

The Speak Out AGM is on Wednesday 15th April at the London Museum of Water and Steam in Brentford. The Voice of Us will be performing and there will be tea and cakes. The AGM is a good time for you to tell us what you think about Speak Out and anything else you’d like us to do. We look forward to welcoming you to all our activities old and new. See you soon!

CCP Project News/Life Hacks NewsFreedom Pass SuccessDo you remember last time we said we were campaigning as people were having their Freedom Passes taken away?

We have had some good success. Local Councillor Ruth Cadbury has been working with Hounslow Council on our behalf. We have written to local MPs on behalf of mem-bers who had their pass taken away. All 4 of those members have now been given their passes back.

CCP met with Managers of the Freedom Pass scheme at Hounslow Council. They agreed that things hadn’t been handled very well. Members told us that they were being assessed on their physical abilities and not on their learning disabilities. This was unfair.

The Council admitted that information about the Freedom Pass scheme had not been made clear for the learning disability com-munity. Speak Out is now working with the Council to make their Freedom Pass application form and letter into Easy Read.

Life Hacks - smarter ways to do things Spend an afternoon learning how to do every day tasks in a simple way. Young people from the Challenge Network will show us how. There’s free drinks & snacks !

Voice of Us Drama/ Speak Out BandNewsVoice of Us Steam Ahead!

The Voice of Us have done two performances at the London Museum of Water and Steam. The play is a promenade piece where the audience follow the actors around the exhi-bition, watching different short scenes and musical numbers. You can get involved in this interactive play on Wednesday 15th April. The Voice of Us are performing it at the Speak Out AGM.

We have been rehearsing our new play called ‘I’m A Disabled Person… Get Me Out Of Here!’ We hope to perform this play in the centre of Hounslow in April and at Lampton Park Conference Centre in May. Look out for posters about these events or check out the Speak Out website for details. Contact Bryony for information or to get involved.

Hey Ho! Speak Out Band... let’s go!

If you watch Eurovision on TV this year (Saturday 23rd May) you must look out for the band from Finland. They are four guys with learning disabilities and they play punk rock with attitude!

Across the world right now there are lots of people with learning disabilities who are joining bands. So, if you want to join the revolution, come out of your bedrooms and down to the Speak Out band sessions!

We meet in a proper music studio and it is really easy to get to. Call Keiron or Bryony on 07949 075603 for more details.

Speak Out Parliament VisitNewsSpeak Out in Hounslow members were invited by Mary McLeod MP to take a tour of the Houses of Parliament.

We met her in Westminster Hall , which is 900 years old and thanked her for arranging the tour. Our tour guide told us about the history of Parliament. She showed us where Queen Elizabeth walks to open Parliament.

She also showed us the House of Lords and the House of Commons. In the House of Lords the seats were red and in the House of Commons the seats were green. We were told that we could not sit on the seats as only the Lords and Members of Parliament can sit down on them!

The tour was very interesting. We were told about Guy Fawkes and Winston Churchill. All of us enjoyed it very much and about 14 people went. We want to go back next year!

UK Elections 2015 Don’t forget... this year there is an election. This means if you are over 18 you can vote. The election is on Thursday 7th May 2015.

Voting is all about choosing who you want as your Member of Parliament. Voting is easy to.

But you must be registered to vote. You can check if you are registered. Phone Hounslow Council’s Electorial Services people on 020 8583 2828. Don’t miss out!
