• Columns are most important members of Reinforced Concrete Structures having different cross sectional shapes.
• They are classified on the basis of their length, lateral dimensions, support condition and nature of loading.
• Aim of the dissertation is to prepare a SOFTWARE MODULE FOR DESIGN OF RECTANGULAR AND NON-RECTANGULAR RCC COLUMNS subjected to Axial Force and Biaxial Bending Moments as per IS Codes
• Module supports a user friendly input of required data and an impressive graphical output of calculated data.

Introduction
• To prepare a software module for design (capacity calc.) of rectangular and non-rectangular shapes RCC Short Columns (incl. L, C, +, T)
• To identify software requirements and prepare the formulation
• To design front-end and do the implementation of module using Microsoft Visual C++ 2010
• Testing of software and verification by comparing its results with the standards solution available in references
• To design the Security system with the help of hardware locking system (Safe-Net Systems)

Scope of Work
• Design of RCC Column subjected to Axial Force and Biaxial Bending Moments is an iterative task which is tedious and time consuming if done manually which can be used for Rectangular shape only and with Symmetric Rebar Arrangements only
• Present Design methodology in India is based on use of Interaction Charts given in Handbook of Reinforced Concrete Design
• Software packages are available for design of rectangular and non-rectangular based on international codes but very few are based on IS code

Review of Existing Software
• Pi–Design is a software package for advanced analysis and design of reinforced concrete elements (columns, beams, slabs) subjected to axial forces (N) and axial or biaxial (Mx and My) bending moments.
• It includes following Column sections : Rectangular, L-shaped, Z-shaped, T-shaped, Circular, Quadrilateral, -shaped Π
• It supports a user friendly graphical input of required data and an impressive graphical output of calculated data.

The concrete Column Design modules are suitable for the design of the following column types:
• Rectangular Column Design, RecCol: Solid rectangular columns of which the larger column dimension does not exceed four times the smaller dimension.
• Circular Column Design, CirCol: Solid circular columns where the simplified design approach applicable to rectangular columns may be applied.
• General Column Design, GenCol: Columns of any general shape and columns with openings.

Description of the Program• Program contains separate modules for different column shapes
• Input Geometrical and Reinforcement data
• Input Pu, Mux and Muy for all load combinations
• Click ‘Check’ button. This will prepare interaction diagram for Pu-Mux and Pu-Muy.
• Program will read the Muxl and Muyl values from interaction diagram corresponding to given axial load Pu.
• Inequality ratio is calculated based on moment capacities obtained
• It checks the criteria of minimum and maximum percentage of
steel, axial load carrying capacity of the section and spacing of
reinforcement
