Software as a Service/Business

Introduction • Software as a service (SaaS) is a software licensing and delivery model
in which software is licensed on a subscription basis and is centrally hosted.
• It is sometimes referred to as "on-demand software".
• SaaS is typically accessed by users using a thin client via a web browser.

Web based simulation tools • Engineering simulation software (Unisim ®), traditionally delivered as
an on-premises solution through the user's desktop, is an ideal candidate for SaaS delivery.
• The main driver is that traditional engineering simulation software required a large up-front investment in order to access the simulation software.
• The large investment kept engineering simulation inaccessible for many startups and middle market companies who were reluctant or unable to risk a large software expenditure on unproven projects.

UniSim® • UniSim ® can be provided through a light web-based application to tap
into that market
• Similarly, vessel design software (UOP) can also be marketed in a similar way
• In all cases, the entire real-time calculations are done on a remote server at Honeywell

Data Analysis • In-house assay data can be analyzed to provide solutions for customer
problems through data analysis software developed at Honeywell
• Best possible yields for a given assay can be predicted based on prior pilot plant data

Tab app • It often happens in a industry that new operators are not trained to
handle critical situations
• An app that captures real time plant data and relays it to an engineer/ experienced operator at a remote location solves the problem
• The controls can be manipulated in the app which relays actions to the central server to achieve desired results
• Different levels of authentication can be provided to prevent misuse
• Everything is delivered in a SaaS model

Cost optimization • One of the biggest selling points is the potential to reduce IT support
costs by outsourcing hardware and software maintenance and support to the SaaS provider
• SaaS customers have no hardware or software to buy, install, maintain, or update. Access to applications is easy: You just need an Internet connection

Why SaaS/SaaB.? Benefits of the SaaS model include:
• easier administration
• automatic updates and patch management
• compatibility: All users will have the same version of software
• easier collaboration, for the same reason
• global accessibility
