The licence server runs over the CLIENTnetwork, therefore please feel free to install Hampson-

Russell on as many PCs as you desire.

Before any installation, you , yneed to create a destination folder on your local disk. By default the software will write to c:\program_files\hrs

Therefore, if there is an existing installation, it will be overwritten, potentially causing

blproblems.


Copy and paste your recently y ydownloaded zip file into the newly created folder.


Right click on the zip file and select the Extract to Folderoption, as indicated. This folder will be deleted afterwards.


Click on the “setup.exe” contained within the Disk1 folder created during the extraction process.


Press “Next >>” to start the installation wizard.


Make sure no Hampson-Russell software is running.

If there is an application running, pressing “no” will exit g, p gthe installation process.


As stated earlier, the software will be installed to c:\program files\hrs, be installed to c:\program files\hrs, Therefore use the “Browse..” [2] option to navigate to your newly created folder “CE8R1” [3]. Finally, press “OK” to accept the changes.[2][1]

Now press “Next Now press Next >>” [2] to continue with the installation.

You are presented with the option to customise the installation. It is recommended that you choose all packages i dditi l since an additional

software package maybe required at a later date.

Once “Next >>” [1] is pressed, the installation

Once the process bar is completed this menu will appear. Press “Finish” to exit the wizard.

The main difference between a CE8 licence file and CE7 are the feature numbers. For example AVO has feature number 7 [a] for CE8, but in CE7 it is 6 [b]. This means a CE7 licence cannot run

CE8, but in CE7 it is 6 [b]. This means a CE7 licence cannot run CE8 software. In addition, CE8 has two new software packages: SeisLoader and View3d, these are included in the licence file.


All licences contain the hostname [1] and vol

CE8[1] hostname [1] and vol

id: [2] . The latter is used for the licence file’s encryption. Both

ypcan be found using the dos prompt, as shown below.


To check the location of your licence file (if required) open up regedit:

A “licence service” set-up is recommended for PC as shown here in the registry. For more information on this, please refer

By opening the “FLEXlm Service” folder you can view the location of the licence file


Simply open up the existing licence file and copy your new CE8 licence into the file.


In lmtools [1] (located in the licence manager folder within your installation d ) l “ d l ” [3]directory) select “ReRead Licence File” [3] under “Start/StopReread” tab [2]. Sometimes, this does not always work, so it necessary to “Stop” [4] and then Re-“Start” [5] the Server.

Full Window Licence Installation [Windows][ ]

This section goes through a full windows licence installation. This is necessary if you have a new Hampson-Russell permanent y y p plicence file or have decided to move to a different licence server machine.The document describes the meaning of a “licence service”. This gis the recommended approach when setting up licences, rather than just pointing to an actual file.Pre-requisitesq

Windows Hampson-Russell software has been installed successfully

All licences are issued from Calgary; regional offices need to know the two pieces f i f ti of information

required for licence generation:

These can be found from the dos command. To open up the dos window, type “cmd” into the Run... command.


The image left shows a typical shows a typical licence file. The location of vol id: and hostname are illustrated.


Once the software has been installed, copy your licence file into c:\flexlm\licence.txt, as shown above It is not mandatory to have exactly the above. It is not mandatory to have exactly the same name and folder location, but in this workflow I will be using these parameters.

You may need to stop “lmgrd” (licence management system) to switch on the Hampson-Russell licence server. However, I would recommend first trying without this operation, but come back if you experience problems.

1) Right click on tool-bar to bring kup Task Manager.

2) Right click on lmgrd.exe on the processing tab

Other software applications do use lmgrd, therefore you must inform your colleagues before carrying out this task.


Windows firewall settings can prevent g plmgrd from starting, therefore you need to alter them.


Only for the installation of the software, turn off the

[2],

firewall [1]. Afterward “lmgrd” can be made as an exception [2].

If this is the first time Hampson-Russell software has been installed on the machine, then flexlm tools will be blank. However, if you are unsure, check “regedit”, shown on th t f lidthe next few slides.


Type “regedit” into the Run… command:


The FLEXlm license Manager entries are found in: \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\

To make a fresh start, all Hampson-Russell entries need to be deleted. In this case the highlighted lines wouldthis case, the highlighted lines would be deleted.

Note that deleting entries for other ft k ill t th fsoftware packages will stop them from

working.


1) Make sure “Configuration “Configuration using Services” toggle in on.

Initially, Configuration of services is blank.


Firstly, select path to lmgrd.exe [1], using “Browse” [2]. This is found in the “licence manager” [3] folder within your installation

directory [4]. Finally press “open” [5] once the path is set.

Select path to your licence file [1] licence file [1], again using browse [2]. Since my file has a .txt[2]

extension, then I need to change the “file type” to all files [1][3]. Finally, press “open” [4] to complete the

dprocedure.

Go back to where the licence file is located [1]. Then right click on the window and select New > Text Document [2]click on the window and select New -> Text Document [2].

Change the name of this text file to log.txt; this will then be used as your licence log file.as your licence log file.


Now in lmtools, choose the newly formed text file for your licence log fileyour licence log file.


The service configuration is now complete. First make sure both “start server at power up” and “use services” toggles are ticked [1] . Secondly, press “save service” [2] to accept this entry and press “yes” [3] to the press save service [2] to accept this entry and press yes [3] to the following pop-up.

This section illustrates how to combine licences if they are not

Simply type ;@[name of computer in loop] and this will combine licences of the two machines In this example combine licences of the two machines. In this example “support-01” and “Handel”.

Running a UNIX licence on a PCRunning a UNIX licence on a PC

Our licensing policy allows you to run a UNIX/Linux licence on a PC, but not vice versa. This document runs through this , gprocedure.Pre-requisites

All the utilities needed to run a dongle are stored in your “licence manager” folder [1] located in your installation directory. Knowing your windows XP service pack is vital to knowing what driver you use. Prior to Service Pack 2, use “FLEXidInstaller.exe”[2]; from Pack 2 onwards use “HASP4 driver” [3].

Open up newly generated folder


Open up the readme file contained in the second level folderlevel folder.


The readme file provides information pon the updated driver. To summarise, please use this driver when installing recent versions on Windows XP.


Now execute the hdd32.exe file to install the new driver

Once the installation has been successful, I recommend rebooting the machine.


The image left is a typical dongle. Insert into your g yUSB socket after the driver installation (it is not a major problem if you inserted the dongle before installation). When a light appears, successful onne tion has been made connection has been made.

Furthermore, the following message will appear on your tool bar:your tool bar:


A final check to make sure the dongle is working is:[2]

Recommended licence set-up:Ideally you should set-up the licence management system as a service [1], rather than by licence file [2] as illustrated in the full windows licence installationthan by licence file [2], as illustrated in the full windows licence installation.This means it is easier to combine your licence file (see combining licences document) with existing licences in the computer loop.The licence service is constantly stored on the PC, even when the dongle is removed, but only becomes active once the dongle is re-inserted but only becomes active once the dongle is re-inserted. Dongle licences can be shared over the network (see networking licences)

A user’s default path for their project and data locations can be set. In this way, when the user goes to import data or starts a new project, the software will automatically go to those locations.

Licence file masking on PC:

This is probably the most common reason why a licence management system does not start on PC. It happens when transferring between licences; for example from demo to permanent licence.

Flexlm error -15 and -18 are commonly associated with this issue.

In \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\FLEXlm Licence Manager notice there are two string entries for “Hamp-Russ” licence file. notice there are two string entries for Hamp Russ licence file. This shows the demo licence file is masking your licence service entry (@support-01).

You must read through full windows installation to understand what is meant by “licence service”y


There are two parts to solving the problem1) Change the name of the demo licence file to demo2.txt, as ) g ,shown. Then flexlm cannot find the file.


2) Remove the demo licence file entry from the registry.(i) Right click on “HAMP-RUSS_LICENSE_FILE”( ) l d f(ii) Select modify(iii) Remove “demo” licence file path(iv) Press “OK”

The registry has now been changed and Geoview should start straightawaystart straightaway.


Flexlm -16,287 (Vendor daemon can't talk to lmgrd)

This is a known issue with Solaris and FlexLM. This problem frequently happens on the Solaris operating system and has to do with select() and file descriptors set to > 1024 do with select() and file descriptors set to > 1024.

One method to resolve this issue is to start lmgrd from a shell i t th t li itl t th fil d i t Th i t h ld script that explicitly sets the file descriptors. The script should

look like:

#!/bin/sh ulimit -n 1024 ulimit -H -n 1024 lmgrd [...]


Flexlm -88,287 (System clock has been set back)

This issue occurs when FlexLM finds files on the system that have a future date relative to the system time. This is an issue for FlexLM because there is the possibility that the user has reset the system clock in order to extend the use of an expired license. In most cases, the system clock had to be reset for testing purposes or the user has copied system clock had to be reset for testing purposes or the user has copied files from somewhere that have a future date.

The solution is to first find all the files on the system that have a future d te nd eithe edit the time t mp o delete themdate and either edit the timestamps or delete them.

To reset the timestamps in Unix, create a file named now.tmp. Then find all files newer than "now.tmp" and reset the timestamp by running thi d t this command as root: find / -newer now.tmp -exec touch {} \;

To reset the timestamps in Windows, you will first have to find the files p , yon your system. The default Windows File Explorer cannot do this. You will likely have to install a new File Manager programmer and use their search and file editing tools. Download.com is a good place to start searching.


FLEXlm Error: No such feature exists | Feature: OPENWORKS

This is not really an error with FlexLM and the license. The error occurs when the user tries to start the Geoview Well Log E h t l i O W k I d t d thi Exchange to access logs via OpenWorks. In order to do this, FlexLM needs to check out an OpenWorks license. The system will search through the LM_LICENSE_FILE environment variable and look for the OpenWorks feature in one of the licenses If it and look for the OpenWorks feature in one of the licenses. If it cannot find the OpenWorks license, the error message above is shown.

The solution is to ensure that the OpenWorks connectivity is correctly configured in HRS and that the LM_LICENSE_FILE contains the license file for OpenWorks One quick solution is to contains the license file for OpenWorks. One quick solution is to open Landmark first and then open a terminal window and start Hampson-Russell from the new terminal window.


FLEXlm Error: No Platform Set Error: No Platform Set

When you get the message “no platform set” when doing the installation, you should execute the setup script (from the CD

ll ) h h f ll llinstallation) with the following argument to allow you to continue as normal:

Still Having Problems? Unix & Linux

Often, the system stores some license information on the user’s machine and this information is not updated when the license changes. This may require that you remove specific files and let the system rebuild them again with the new information.aga o a o

In Unix and Linux, there will be a file in the user’s home directory called .flexlmrc. Files that are preceded with a dot (.) are hidden files and you will have to use the a option in the ls command to view all the files will have to use the –a option in the ls command to view all the files including the hidden files. For example, type in the command:

ls-la

Find the .flexlmrc file and either view and edit the contents, or delete the file. Deleting the file will cause it to be rebuilt next time the software is runrun.
