Softmod for ANY 4.2 Wii!

Tested and Working.Anything done toyour console is atyour own RISK!

If you're not on 4.2, DoNOT Update, insteaduse this tutorial

This is for people stuckon 4.2 with no cIOS.Make sure your sd cardis formatted to FAT32or FAT16 and your Wiiis connected to the netthrough Wi-Fi(although it should bepossible to do offline),then download thispack , Unzip the packand place the files andfolders onto the root of your sd card. Your sdcard should like this:X:\apps\ X:\00000001\ X:\wad\ X:\private\ X:\boot.elf X:\IOS38-64-v3610.wadX:\IOS36-64-v3351.wad

TAKE OUT ALLGAMECUBE MEMORYCARDS ANDCONTROLLERSBEFOREPROCEEDING

Step 1 - InstallingHomebrew Channeland Bootmii

a. On your wii's mainmenu, click the SDMenu icon. Afterwards,insert the SD Card intothe Wii. A Pop upsaying Load

boot.dol/elf? shouldappear. Select Yes.

b. The Hackmii Installershould now run. Makesure to installHomebrew Channel andBootmii as an IOSand/or boot2. Alwaysinstall it as boot2 if your wii can.

Step 2 - Backup YourWii's NAND

It is highlyrecommended to makea NAND Backup withbootmii as it can saveyou from 99% of

bricks. That is, if youcan install bootmii asboot2. You'll need a SDCard with atleast 550MB free on it. Also notebootmii can be pickyabout SD Cards so itsbest to avoid genericones. The 2gb SandiskMicroSD with anAdapter isrecommended.

a) Place the SD Cardinto your wii and powerit on. If bootmii wasinstalled as boot2, thebootmii screen shouldautomatically appear, if

it was installed as anIOS, then you'll have togo to homebrewchannel, press 'home'on your wiimote thenselect 'Load Bootmii'

b) Navigate using thepower/reset/ejectbuttons on the front of

your console and selectthe icon with the gearson it. If the consolebuttons don't work,you'll have to use agamecube controller.

c) Now select the iconthat has an arrowpointing to a SD Cardbut from the chip. Then

follow the on-screeninstructions to backupyour NAND.

d) In 10 - 15 minutes,the NAND Backupshould be complete.You may have gotten afew bad blocks but anynumber of bad blocksunder 80 is normal and

fine. Once all is done,you can exit bootmii.

e) Remove the SD Cardfrom your wii andinsert into your PC,backup the 'bootmii'folder, the 'NAND.bin'file and 'key.bin' filefrom your sd card ontoa safe place on your

PC. Once thesefiles/folders are on yourPC, delete them fromyour SD Card. If you donot and bootmii asboot2 is installed, it willload everytime!

If you were to everbrick, just copy thebootmii folder and'NAND.bin' from yourPC onto the root of your SD Card. Thenrepeat parts a, b & cbut this time selectingthe icon that points tothe chip. Whilebootmii/boot2 can save

you from full bricks,bootmii/IOS cannot! Itis not recommended touse bootmii as an IOSto restore your NAND!

Step 3 - RestoringThe Bug Into IOS36

Pre-Note: If you haveno working Wi-FiConnection, you can tryselecting 'Load iOSfrom SD Card' insteadof 'Download from NUS'

a) Load and HomebrewChannel and runDOP-Mii, on the IOSSelection Screen, select'Install An iOS w/

fakesign' by pressingdown on the d-pad thenA on the wiimote. Youshould now be in thetrucha bug restorerportion of DOP-Mii.Load IOS36 and selectDowngrade IOS15.Each time it asks,select 'Download fromNUS'Make sure you get no

errors. If LoadingIOS36 doesn't work forthis step, press B for noIOS reload when askedto load IOS. Although Itshould do these stepsalmost automatically,I'll just include the info.

b) In the fakesigninstallation, once iOS15is downgraded, it

should begin patchingiOS36.. Make sure toinstall the patchedIOS36 with all thesepatches selected (JustSay Yes to All of theones that come up)Install IOS to slot (36)Hash Check (trucha)YesES_Identify YesNAND Permissions Yes

Then Press A on InstallPatched IOS36. Again,everytime it asks,choose 'Download fromNUS'

c) On the samefakesign installation.Load IOS36 and selectRestore IOS15. Eachtime it asks, select'Download from NUS'

Once done, return tohomebrew channel andcontinue the tutorial

Step 4 - Delete TheStubbed IOS

a)Re-run HomebrewChannel and LoadDOP-Mii again. Choosethe first option bypressing A (iOS:36),You should now be

taken to a menu withthree options: iOS, BC,mIOS. Select iOS bypressing A. Go toiOS222. Undercurrently installed, youshould 'Stub', Press -on your wiimote andpress A to confirm. Dothe sameun-installation processfor iOS223, iOS249 and

iOS250 also. Do NOT remove any Other IOS!

Once done, exit.

Step 5 - InstallingcIOS249-rev17

a) Re-run HomebrewChannel and load

cIOS38-rev17 Installer.Choose IOS36 andpress A and thenchoose Network Install(requires wi-fi) or WadInstall (offline) andpress A.

cIOS249 Installed.

Step 6 - Install andPatch A Few MoreIOS

a) Load up homebrew,then load up DOP-Mii.

Load IOS36 or IOS249,select IOS menu,Navigate to IOS53,press + to install andsay yes for Sig HashCheck (Trucha Bug) butsay NO to the otherpatches. Do the samefor IOS55. Next presshome to return tohomebrew channel.

Offline Method forStep 6 part A:Download and unzipthis pack , place the twowad files you get intothe wad folder on yourSD Card. Load WADManager, load iOS249,SD Slot and disableNAND Emulation.Navigate to the wadfolder, highlight

iOS53-v5406 [TB].wad,press A and install. Dothe same foriOS55-v5406 [TB].wad

b) Load up homebrewchannel once more,then load up WADManager. Load IOS249,SD Slot and NANDEmulation: Disabled,

navigate to the wadfolder, highlightIOS60patched.wad andpress A. Make sureaction is set to installand Install the wad.After a successfulinstall, Press Home togo back to homebrewchannel.NOTE: Users changedwho had a Korean Wii

region changed to aUSA/Eur/Jap Wii, DoNOT InstalliOS70patched! Skipbelow step of c.c) Do the same forIOS70patched.wad.Make Sure the action isSet to INSTALL!

Step 7 - InstallingPriiloader (BrickProtection andSystem Hacks)Before continuing,download your

hacks.ini file from here ,unzip it and place thehacks.ini onto the rootof your SD Card.

a) Load HomebrewChannel and runPriiloader v0.4 (rev78)installer.

b) Press + on the

wiimote to install.

c) Your wii shouldreboot into Priiloaderafter the installation (If it doesn't, power off your Wii and hold reseton the console whileturning it on). Go toSystem Menu Hacksand enable 'Block DiscUpdates' and any other

hacks you would like,select 'Save Settings'when finish. Press B onthe wiimote to go backto the main menu, nextgo to Settings and usethe d-pad to setAutoboot: SystemMenu. Then select SaveSettings. Press B to goback to the main menu.If you get any

problems, look here

d) In the main menu,select homebrewchannel to load thehomebrew channel andproceed with Step 8.

Step 8 - Backup

LaunchersPre-Note: If you havea newer Wii, itprobably has theD3-2 Drive whichprevents you fromloading DVDBackups. This meansyou'll have to use aUSB Loader

a) Load WAD Managerfrom HomebrewChannel, navigate intothe wad folder andhighlight eitherUSB_Loader_GX_r929.wad orNeogamma_R9_beta10.

wad. (Neogamma forDisc loading and USBLoader for USB HDDloading.)

b) Press A on thewiimote and set actionto Install WAD. Give ittime to install with noerrors.

c) Press Home on thewiimote to exit.

Prepare you USB HDDto load through USBLoader GX - here

Install Hermes'cIOS222 & cIOS223 -

here

Install cIOS56 to playGuitar Hero 5/Beatlesfrom the disc channel -Download

Install the newcIOScorp4.0/DarkCORP 1.0 forDVDR loading throughDisc Channel - (works

on all wiis except D3-2)- Download - make sureyou read the readme!

Install the InternetChannel - NTSC-U , PALor NTSC-J

Use your Wii as amedia player withMPlayer CE & DVDX

Install custom MIOS forGamecube Backups -here

Get some emulators forall your old favourites(better than vc exceptfor N64)

DVD-R

You need to use eitherVerbatim DVD-R orRitek G05 DVD-R foryour games, most otherdiscs won't work. Havea look at our discsection for more info.

Also note, if yourconsole came with 4.2,there's a chance you'llhave a D3-2 Drivewhich will not loadDVDR Backups.

That's why i'm waiting before i move it to the tutorial section. I wasthinking about doing something like this this morning then when iresearched, the person used a slightly different method to what ihad in mind.

Wad manager runs of off the bootmii IOS. Not sure why heuninstalled cause i'm pretty sure that the stub wouldn't haveanything preventing it from being overwritten. If anyone canconfirm wether the stub IOS249 can simply be overwritten or not,i'd make the necessary changes.

IOS249 is being deleted because it is useless on an alreadyupgraded 4.2 wii.

As for what IOS wad manager is running from, it looks like it isbeing booted via bootmii, im not positive this would work, but it's

worth a try for someone.
