Yap, Micah Joy C. October 12, 2015 Critical Essay (Class Analysis) Wright Capitalists do not like equality. They will never like the concept equality, fairness or equal opportunities for all. They will always see themselves as much important than the working class. Evidently, these working classes need the capitalist class mainly for sustenance. Moreover, the capitalist class needs the working class for operation. Although these two classes are seen to be somewhat associated with each other, what differs between them is that they differ on preferences on what is the most universally important to them. It is luxuries for the capitalist class and necessities for the working class. The interests of the capitalists are far the opposite of the interest of the working class. Due to capitalism, social classes are not divided into two sharply contrasting sets of opinions as Marx predicted. The capitalist class is given more opportunity to take advantage of the working class—this, being continually dictated by the society. In this reading, I saw how the capitalist class or the “exploiters” are take dominance on the working class. They give incentives to the workers but there are always a set of conditions and requirements that they should meet in order for them to receive the “extra incentive” that will be given to them. It is quite amazing how these capitalists can really outwit the working class using their power—them being superior to the working class. I cannot remove the idea thinking about this reading how the capitalists act as antagonists and the working class as the protagonists. The working class as the oppressed unprivileged and disadvantaged. But what I understood from Wright that is not the capitalists per se that are the antagonist of the whole system. It is their interests that are the real antagonist—their material interests. This capitalist class is only the “actors” supplying their economic
