separate transfers from various officers of the Society of Southwest Archivists. The first
transfer, annual meeting and committee documents, was given by Larry Wygant on 1976

April 29. The second transfer was given by Marilyn von Kohl on 1978 April 10. The
third transfer from Bud Newman of committee and annual meeting manuscripts was
given on 1978 June 12. The fourth transfer, various documents from his term as societal
president, was given by Sam Sizer on 1978 May 5. The fifth transfer, executive board
records from John Steward via Marietta Maltzer, was made in 1978 May 6. The sixth
transfer, local arrangements manuscripts from 1976, was made by Laura Simmons on
1978 May 4. The seventh transfer, including 17 newsletters, was made by Larry Wygant
on 1980 January 4. The eight transfer, various committee files and minutes, was made by
Patricia Meador on 1981 August 10. The ninth transfer was made by George Younkin
via Robert Sloan on 1982 June 25. The tenth transfer was made by Charles Schultz on
1982 July 13. The eleventh transfer, including newsletters, minutes, certificates, and
directories, was made by Robert Sloan in 1982 May. The twelfth transfer of various
committee documents was made by Patricia Meador on 1984 November 14. The
thirteenth transfer of workshop material was made by Robert Schaadt on 1985 May 9.
The fourteenth transfer, various documents from her term as societal president, was made
on 1985 October 30. The fifteenth transfer was made by Jan Hart on 1988 August 15.
The sixteenth transfer was made by an unknown Society of Southwest Archivists
Committee at an unknown date. The seventeenth transfer, local arrangements committee
documents, was made by Marcelle Hull on 1988 November 15. The eighteenth transfer
of minutes was made by Robert Schaadt on 1989 November 10. The nineteenth transfer
of three notebooks was made by Robert Tissing in 1990. The twentieth transfer was
made by Robert Schaadt on 1989 July 28. The twenty-first transfer was made by Frank
de la Teja in 1990 May. The twenty-second transfer was made by Kent Keeth at an
unknown date. The twenty-third transfer was made by Robert Clark and Cindy Martin at
1991 February 6. The twenty-fourth transfer was made by Claudia Rivers on 1995 May.
The twenty-fifth transfer was made by Robert Martin in 1995 May. The twenty-sixth
transfer by Robert Spindler was made in 1995 June.
This collection begins in 1973 with founding documents of the society, and ends
in 2008 with awards committee and local arrangements committee documents.
Organization and Arrangement: Prior to this finding aid, the collection had been partially arranged and inventoried
according to person, and occasionally by year. Extensive reorganization to make the
collection more cohesive to the researcher was necessary, including filing manuscripts by
committee rather than person. The original order for much of the annual meeting series
was kept.
Currently, the Society of Southwest Archivists Records are arranged in three
series: I. Annual Meeting Materials, II. Committee Documents, III. General
Membership.

some series are closely related to specific annual meetings, such as the Site Selection
Committee and the Local Arrangements Committee. The Executive Board
correspondence filed as “Leon Miller” was kept together because it was numbered
consecutively, and Miller has served on many committees, including the Executive
Board. Series is in excellent condition.
