DESCRIPTION

Records, 1963 - , of the Society for Photographic Education. Includes correspondence, minutes

of board and executive committee meetings, treasurer’s reports, budgets, questionnaires,

membership files and directories, conference materials, and national and regional publications,

including the journal, Exposure. The bulk of the material documents the period 1975-91. The

collection is still active. 32 linear feet.

PROVENANCE

In 1985 the Board of the Society for Photographic Education named CCP as the sole and

exclusive repository for its archives. This collection began as a gift from the Society in 1986.

RESTRICTIONS

Permission of SPE is required to read personal correspondence less than twenty-five years old.

ORGANIZATION

This collection has been given the designation of Archive Group (AG) 78. The papers are

divided first into boxes and then into folders. Thus, AG78:2/1 indicates the first folder in the

second box.

SPE Chairperson files are arranged in order of the terms each person served as chairperson of

SPE.

SPE CHAIRPERSON FILES

Robert Heinecken files, ca. 1963-76

Robert Heinecken was chairperson of SPE during 1970-1972. Files document his activities as a

founding member of SPE, his tenure as chairperson of SPE, and his time as Board member of

SPE. Includes correspondence with Peter Bunnell, Carl Chiarenza, Art Sinsabaugh, Bernard

Freemesser, Todd Walker, and others; minutes from board and executive committee meetings;

and national conference materials. Of special note is a copy of Heinecken's paper presented at

the 1964 George Eastman House history of photography symposium and copies of papers

presented at the 1965 teaching photography symposium in Chicago. Robert Heinecken’s papers
