Social Program

Basic ActivitiesBasic activities are free for all TUSS participants. These activities range from theme parties to international dinners. Make sure you attend these activities to make your summer school experience an unforgettable experience!

Optional ActivitiesOptional activities are not covered by the basic social program fee. These activities require a small additional fee to cover their costs. You can sign up for these activities when you register for your summer course. Forgot to sign up when you registered? Pink Monday


Welcome DayA warm welcome

During the welcome day you will get to know Tilburg University. You will receive a welcome bag including all the essentials you will need for life in Tilburg. We will also show you around campus and there will be a bicycle workshop to introduce you to the way Dutch people get around! Renting a bike will also be possible after the workshop. We will end with some drinks so you can meet our summer school mentors and get to know your fellow students!

When: Friday 29 June, 6 July & 20 July

Where: Meet at Academia building @ Tilburg University Campus

Arrival Day

Once you arrive at the university, we will be there to help you get settled as quickly as possible. Please come to the Academia building to check in. We will then take you to collect your room key and show you to your room.

Tilburg by BikeGet to know Tilburg

Find your way around Tilburg using a Dutch person’s favorite mode of transportation. During this bike tour, our summer school mentors will show you around Tilburg and will tell you all about their favorite spots in the city.

Citytrip Den BoschExplore Den Bosch on land and water

Den Bosch, the capital of the province of Brabant, is home to the famous chocolate delicacy the “Bossche Bol” and is known as the birthplace of the famous painter Jheronimus Bosch. This city has one of the oldest and most complete medieval city centers of the Netherlands, and its inner city has the largest walled-in area in the country. This activity will take you to Den Bosch to explore the city. The boat tour will show you the city from a completely new perspective.

Ice Cream SocialLife is better with ice cream

Take a break from studying and come hang out with us for some ice cream. Have a chat, relax and listen to some music. Of course, the night will not be complete without the most delicious ice cream, which will be provided by us.

I*ESN Theme PartiesDance the night away

Tilburg’s biggest international student organization, I*ESN Tilburg, hosts some of the best theme parties in the city. In their bar, Carpe Noctem, I*ESN Tilburg will organize two theme parties especially for you. Dress up and bottoms up, because these nights will be unforgettable!

Exploring Brabant by Covered WagonA unique experience in the countryside

Experience the beautiful landscapes around Tilburg and learn about their history. Throughout this tour we will see some of the most beautiful hidden places around Tilburg whilst hearing the stories of the events that happened there in the past. We will see cows grazing, farmhouses, and we may even spot some wild animals. To make the tour complete, drinks and snacks will be provided.

Safaripark Beekse BergenJoin us on safari!

The Beekse Bergen takes the concept zoo to a whole new level. This park mimics its animal’s natural habitat by recreating African landscapes. The park is home to over 150 different animal species and you can go on safari by foot, bus, boat or even a combination of all three! Go on safari with us and look into the eyes of wild animals while enjoying the beautiful nature of Safaripark Beekse Bergen.

Movie Night under the StarsSit back and enjoy the show

Tonight we will go to the open-air cinema. We will watch a movie of your choice in the open air of the university park which we will transform into a cosy hangout spot. Of course there will be popcorn and other snacks as well as drinks.Would you like to vote on which movie will be shown? Visit our Tilburg University Summer School facebook page and select or add your favorite movie to our Movie Night poll!

Farewell DrinksIt’s not goodbye, it’s see you later

Unfortunately, all good must come to an end. But not without getting the chance for us to say goodbye to you and for you to share some last drinks with your fellow students. Even if your course isn’t ending yet, feel free to come by and say goodbye to those who are leaving! And remember: There are unforgettable memories behind your goodbyes.

Afternoon Tea How do you drink your tea?

Join us for a cozy afternoon tea with plenty of treats, pastries, snacks and of course tea (or coffee). Share your stories, experiences and plans with us and your fellow students. This is the perfect afternoon for casual chatting and an easygoing vibe. We would love to see you there!

La Trappe BreweryBecome a beer expert!

Close to Tilburg, you will find The Koningshoeven Brewery. Under the supervision of the abbey monks, the La Trappe beer is brewed here, between the four walls of the Trappist monastery. Have you always wanted to know how beer is brewed? Join us on this trip to the La Trappe brewery. During a tour of the brewery we will be introduced to all aspects of the production process and all the characteristic buildings on the abbey premises. Of course, we will also taste the delicious Trappist beers.

Salsa WorkshopFeel the rhythm

Put on your dancing shoes and get those hips moving. We will organize a workshop where you will learn how to dance Salsa. Let’s come together to enjoy this dance and music that we love so much. Que viva la salsa!

Citytrip AmsterdamCapital of the Netherlands

Being the capital of the Netherlands, Amsterdam is one city you definitely want to visit! This city is famous for its museums, its canals and the beautiful Vondelpark. The city breathes diversity and its people are incredibly creative. Our mentors will take you to visit the sights and we will go to the Anne Frank Museum, where we will learn more about the story of Anne Frank, a girl who had to go into hiding during World War II.

Pink MondayJoin the party in Pink

Pink Monday, in Dutch ‘Roze Maandag’, is the most popular theme day of the yearly funfair in Tilburg. Pink Monday has become one of the largest events giving attention to gay rights and integration in the Netherlands. It is about acceptance, tolerance and bringing people together. This results in very fun day with lots of music, drinking, dressing in pink and having fun. Join us for a night out and don’t forget: wear something pink!

Summer GamesGot game?

Whether you are a sports fanatic or not, playing different beach sports on a lazy Saturday afternoon in the sun is always fun! Come and join us to get competitive or just hang out! Music, drinks and snacks will be provided.

Tilburg by BoatGet to know Tilburg

Are you curious to see a different side of Tilburg? Explore Tilburg from the water for a real summer experience. While enjoying a drink and some snacks, we will have a nice, sunny boat tour in and around Tilburg.

International PotluckSharing food and culture

This night is all about sharing! The concept of a potluck is this: everyone brings a dish and we will all share. We will provide cutlery, plates and drinks, and you will bring a traditional dish from your home country. This way, we will all get to taste food from all over the world!

Bowling & Karaoke

Get ready for a fun night with friends. For this activity, our mentors will take you out so you can show off your bowling skills! The night will continue by singing all your favorite songs during karaoke.

Show off your bowling and singing skills! Camp Vught National MemorialLearn about Dutch history

An important part of Dutch history was written during the Second World War. This activity will visit Camp Vught National Memorial. The center combines various exhibitions, a memorial room and a wall of reflection. It impressively shows the vast impact the war has had on the Netherlands and its inhabitants. A model of the camp shows the extensive size of the camp. You will also be able to see a reconstruction of the camp’s watchtowers, a crematorium, the execution area and a barrack which shows how the prisoners lived.

Picnic PartyPicnic in the sun

An outdoor picnic is the perfect way to spend your summer day in the Netherlands. Meet up with your fellow students and our summer school mentors and enjoy a cozy lunch on the grounds of the University. Food and drinks will be provided, just bring your appetite!

Surprise ActivitySssssst... It’s a secret!

This activity will remain a surprise for now. But trust us, you would not want to miss it!

End of Summer BBQLet’s grill and chill

No summer is complete without a barbecue! Celebrate the successful completion of your summer course with food, drinks and great company.

Sports CenterGet competitive at the Sports Center

Do you want to work out during the summer? You will be welcome at the Sports Center! The Sports Center is located within walking distance from the university campus and offers sports such as tennis, fitness, beach volleyball and squash. There will be virtual lessons all summer long. For 33 euros, you can buy a sports membership for the entire summer (1/7 - 31/8) or you can buy a daily pass for 7 euros. To register go to the information desk at the Sport Center.

Ambassador ProgramBecome a TUSS ambassador!

Are you as excited about our Summer School as we are? Become an ambassador and make sure your fellow students at home can also make the most out of their summer!

You can become a TUSS ambassador if you have participated in the Summer School and are enthusiastic about sharing your experiences with your peers! As an ambassador, you will actively promote TUSS at your home University on a voluntary basis. Tilburg University Summer School will offer you all the support you need and provide you with a TUSS Promo-kit including promotional materials about TUSS. As a TUSS ambassador, you will receive an official certificate and many other benefits!
