Wisconsin Teenager’sDoodle Wins NationalGoogle Contest

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. (May 22,

2013) — Sabrina Brady was

named the 2013 U.S. winner of

the “Doodle 4 Google” competition

for her image titled “ Coming

Home. ” Her artwork will be

featured on Google’s (NASDAQ: GOOG) homepage tomorrow, May 23. The Wisconsin student

won a $30,000 college scholarship and a $50,000 technology grant for her high school.

Students from across all 50 states participated in the sixth annual contest. They were asked to

draw their interpretations of this year’s theme, “My Best Day Ever...” The panel of judges that

included Katie Couric, Olympic gold medalist Aly Raisman and Brian Henson, picked 50 state

winners from the 130,000 submissions. The public then voted on their favorite doodles from each

of the five age groups. After the national finalists were selected Google executives selected

Brady as the national winner.

The top national finalists , who each received a $5,000 college scholarship: Reagan Gonsalves,

first-grader at Santan Elementary School in Chandler, Ariz., for her doodle “My best day ever is

learning about nature” ; Audrey Zhang, fourth-grader at Michael F. Stokes Elementary School in

Levittown, N.Y., for her doodle “When I discover paradise!” ; Maria Iannone, seventh-grader at

Chestnut Ridge Middle School in Sewell, N.J., for her doodle “The best day ever” ; and Joseph

Han, eighth-grader at Falmouth Middle School in Falmouth, Maine, for his doodle “Late-

afternoon bliss.”

Google CEO Larry Page said, “I was particularly touched by Sabrina’s doodle. I loved the way

she incorporated genuine emotion with the creative use of the Google letters. This moment

clearly resonated with voters across America and everyone here at Google.”

All 50 state finalists will have their artwork displayed in a special exhibition of their artwork at

American Museum of Natural History in New York until July 14, 2013.

“I was honored to be named the national winner. It was an important moment for me and I loved

being able to express it through this contest” Brady said. Brady plans to attend the Minneapolis

College of Art and Design in the fall.

The annual “Doodle 4 Google” national competition is open to K-12 students in U.S. schools.

Students are asked to create their own Google doodle. Through this contest Google encourages

and celebrates the creativity of young people.
