What is social media

• Internet based marketing tools used for sharing and discussing information among people

• Activities that integrate technology, social interaction and the construction of words, pictures, videos and audio

• Information depends on the varied perspectives and ‘building’ of shared meaning among communities

• Everyone is looking at network and meet others• Everyone has something to sell but you can’t be pushy• Listen to what others have to say• Ask them about themselves and their business• Inform them about what you do and what you offer• Tell others about them

Blogging – what is it?

A blog is basically a journal that is available on the web. The activity of updating a blog is “blogging” and someone who keeps a blog is a “blogger.” Blogs are typically updated daily using software that allows people with little or no technical background to update and maintain the blog. Postings on a blog are almost always arranged in chronological order with the most recent additions featured most prominently

• Tips to remember when developing your page• Think carefully about your page’s name and category as you can’t

change it

• Don’t let new visitors land on ‘the wall’ – create a page that really sells you/your business/your product (change this under ‘wall settings’)

• Don’t just use your logo for the profile image – create something inspiring

• Post fresh content regularly

• Respond to EVERY comment made

• Add as much company detail as you can into the ‘info’ section

• Use the events application to promote upcoming events/launches

• Develop a social media strategy – if you don’t have a marketing strategy…do that first!

• Set up a profile on Linkedin to improve your corporate reputation and build business relationships – don’t be afraid to ask for help
