1. Where am I on Social Media?

Think about all the different accounts, old and new, where someone might find you. Considerations for every account. Presume it will be found – and be ready.

 2. Am I happy with how I look on there?

If this was a recruiter, potential coach, or teammates first and only impression of you, would they be turned off? Think about:

• The images, videos and links you’ve shared • The comments from you and your followers/friends on your posts • The accounts you follow, the pages you like and subscribe to • Your communication skills – you are acting like an aspiring professional?

3. Can I do something about how my accounts look? (Like editing or updating those accounts)

Yes – Great, skip to Step 4.

No – Which is sometimes the case if you no longer have access to old accounts… then you need to make sure what you do want found, is found. (See Step 6)

4. What is the most important thing about me to have found on my social media accounts?

• My passion and dedication to my athletic pursuit and sport. • My contact details.

5. Where should I be showcasing the information in Step 4?

• My profile picture – is it consistent across profiles? • My username – is it clear and consistent as possible across profiles? • My cover image – Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn • My Bio – This is prime ‘selling’ real-estate, showcase yourself • Your social media posts – A mix of your sport and other important elements of your life

6. Which of my social media accounts highlights the information in Step 4 best?

If you only get a chance to share one platform, account, website, link to potential recruiters – use the one you are most proud of and best represents you. Link to it from all other places online and include it in your social media Bios.

7. Finally. Always think before you post – and treat all interactions, (including messaging) as having the potential to go public and cost you an amazing sporting opportunity.

Good luck!!!
