What is the impact of the social web on how we learn?

Different social networks have created a bubble of knowledge around everybody. This bubble feeds you daily chunks for knowledge to learning from. This means articles, videos, idea’s and opinions etc.

These networks and how you use them can be different for everybody.

But what do we do with this information?

Social Networks: - Twitter - LinkedIn - Facebook - Quora - etc.

Productivity Tools: - Evernote - Pocket - Dropbox - Google Drive - etc.

The power of learning from the web is not only the social networks themselves. It’s what we can do with this information. Different productivity tools have increased the way we can create value with this information.

Knowledge

- Tweet - Blogpost - Workshop - Specific groups

In social Learning is sharing knowledge just as important as receiving. The knowledge you consume inspires you to create something new. Everybody has something to teach and now we have the tools to create even more value.

Social Learning in a company or organization?

Organisations need to embrace the personal knowledge bubbles of their employees and find ways to share these with the company.

“Dropbox Hack Week is an event where Dropboxers get back to their roots and explore their wildest, most innovative ideas.”

Page 10: Social learning-slides

“Once a month, we give a day back to employees to think creatively, work on innovative projects, and invest in their careers. We call this InDay.”

So,… should everybody do Hack-days?

Hack-days are a great way to create an a low barrier environment for your employees. Here they can share the knowledge from their personal bubble. By letting them experiment with what they learned and continue to build their skill-sets. But might not be the best fit for every company.
