Helping Hand’s social groups help people keep active, maintain their social connections or form new ones. We offer a range of different general and special interest groups to enable people to maintain their independence and improve their health and wellbeing.

We offer a range of affordable and convenient allied health services and exercise classes. Our experienced and highly qualified health professionals are passionate about encouraging and assisting you to enhance your sense of wellbeing and quality of life. The exercise classes are run at North Adelaide on Monday and Thursday, and and Parafield Gardens on Tuesday and Friday.

Pulmonary Rehabilitation – 15 minute education session, plus 60 minute class Clients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) can attend a combined education session and exercise class twice a week, aimed at providing practical knowledge and support to better manage their condition. Education session topics include prevention and management of flare ups, breathing techniques, COPD and swallowing, quitting smoking, nutrition and more.

Seated Qigong – 30 minute class Qigong is the art of managing the breath to achieve and maintain good health. We offer a seated form of Qigong, consisting of gentle arm and torso movements combined with deep breathing. Clients can easily replicate the movements they learn at home, leading to ongoing health benefits, including reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease.

Age Well Fitness Group – 60 minute classThe Age Well Fitness Group is a small class of maximum eight clients at a time, designed to improve many aspects of fitness including aerobic, strength, balance and flexibility, leading to a reduced risk of falls and a general improvement in quality of life. Exercises can be specifically tailored for clients with chronic medical conditions.

Strength For Life – commencing in March 2017The Strength For Life program is designed to provide strength and balance training for over 50s, to help regain and maintain muscle strength. Strength training has been shown to alleviate the effects of chronic conditions such as arthritis, type 2 diabetes, osteoporosis and heart disease.

With many group or one-on-one options, we will assist you in maintaining your current interests or helping you develop new ones. Come on your own, or bring a friend.

Transport is available on request and people living with dementia or who require assistance with mobility are welcome and encouraged.

If you are aged 65+ years (or 50+ years for ATSI), you may be eligible to recieve Government support to access our services at a reduced cost. To check your eligibility, please contact My Aged Care on 1800 200 422 and ask for Helping Hand as your preferred provider.
