Overall aims A lot of the social groups we aimed where

to do with our specific audience we believe would watch our film. Our aim was to get across these three themes to our audience, class, gender and setting. We showed all three themes through two characters and both characters are linked to the themes throughout the film. For example, the conventions of a sports film consist of providing an athletic image, which is shown by both of the girls within the film. This athletic image is also inspired by Fast Girls as there are a variety of personalities within the film, therefore we used an idea from each personality and behaviour too make ours more original.

Class theme Class- social class is a key theme in our film as it shows what

the characters are like. The point of using class in our film is so that we can get the message to our audience that everyone has the chance, whether they are from a fortunate or less fortunate background. To show class we used a range of different factors such as costume, make up, setting, characteristics and locations. If we compared the two characters used in our film, it will show the different in class that we attempted too portray. In our film we used a split screen to show the difference of class and too make it clearer for the audience who was meant to be who, in terms of class. We also used the use of camera and editing techniques instead of just location and acting, too show the difference in backgrounds. The clean shot it is to show a higher class but the slightly fuzzy shot shows the lower class. Also, we used the weather too our advantage and shot certain different scenes on particular days to correspond with the class.

We got the idea of comparative class from Fast Girls as one of the actors comes from a more rural central city background and the other comes from a countryside wealthy background.

Gender theme Gender- gender in the film is a key theme as the only man shown in the opening is

the coach and our film is mainly biased around girls because of our influence fast girls and the fact that we felt a new girl dominated sports film should be realised.

Gender is mainly shown through the two main characters and the female and male coach. We chose a male coach instead of a female to show what some people may think of society today. Our male coach is supposed to be shown as the “better coach” and this is only highlighted thorough the body language of either coach. Comparing both of them too each other shows the difference in backgrounds which was our morale message. But for a lower class coach we chose a lady too be the less fortunate actors coach, as we thought we needed to present feminism more efficiently throughout the film.

Setting Theme Setting- the setting we used for our film was varied due to the characters differences.

The whole film is set in the city, this is just to show how there are two different classes within the city.

Renae’s setting- Renae is biased with being within the posh and more expensive part of the city where she can afford the best coaches and best facilities. This is shown through the comparison of back to back footage of the two opposite girls. For example, Sophie was mainly based within

Sophie’s setting- Sophie is in the slightly rougher part of the city where she trains outside. Her part of the city is a lot darker and colder.

As the film continues the storyline will become clearer as it will show the family life a lot more and the difference between the girls.
