The 2-year Master’s programme trains students to conduct problem-driven transdisciplinary environmental research. The four mandatory courses are designed with an emphasis on resilience - the ability to deal with change and continue to develop.

Students will be introduced to multiple research approaches and methods for studying coupled social-ecological systems.The programme focuses on using systems-based methods to develop new approaches to the governance and management of social-ecological systems. The programme offers one year of compulsory courses and one year spent doing a Master’s thesis.

2. Systems Theory and Resilience ThinkingIV: Systems thinking (4 ECTS)V: Regime shifts (4 ECTS)VI: Resilience thinking (7 ECTS)

3. Governance and Management of Social-Ecological SystemsVII: Challenges of environmental decision-making (4 ECTS), VIII: Adaptive management (4 ECTS), IX: Drama of the commons (3 ECTS), X: Adaptive governance (4 ECTS).

4. Resilience Reflections and Applications (7,5 ECTS)

5. Traineeship in Social-Ecological Resilience for Sustainable Development (7,5 ECTS)
