    Social Bookmarking

    Diigo.com

    What is social bookmarking? It is a fairly new concept in Internetbookmarking that allows you to not only bookmark important sites for yourself, but

    to share your bookmarks and find out who is bookmarking sites for areas that may

    interest you.

    In this assignment, I will have you visit 8 different sites, bookmark, tag, and complete

    a task for each. . .but first lets get your account started and discuss Diigo!

    Before you begin the assignment, you can watch some videos about the

    concept of how one would use this type of site

    While there are many ways one can use social bookmarking, we are simplygoing to use diigo.com to begin the concept of social bookmarking and to

    complete eight specific tasks.

    Getting your Diigo ToolbarWhen you account is first created, which will probably be in class. If you

    are not, simple click on the tools and you should be able to add them at

    Firefox, but if you need or want to use another toolbar, then I use the tool

    area to find a toolbar or diigolet that could work for you.

    How do I Bookmark using Diigo?Assuming your toolbar is successfully installed, I will talk about how to bookmark.

    When you are on a page that you want to bookmark website or page, you can simply

    use the tool in your newly installed toolbar!

    anything in your library until you begin to use Diigo.

    When you finish your assignment, there will be 8 bookmarks under your account.

    For each site bookmarked, there will be at least 3 tags (all sites/bookmarks will have

    the ed422 tag and at two other relevant tags. And if each site you bookmark gets at

    least 3 tags, you should have around 25 tags in your account.

    Understanding Terminology for the TasksWe will discuss this in more detail in class. Below you will be given 8 tasks to complete. Just to

    ensure that you understand the terminology, see below.

    Your Tasks for This AssignmentEach Task will require you to bookmark a site, add tags, and leave a reflection in the

    description area. Read the instructions carefully as the requirements are different

    for each task. . .

    Think about this as an Internet scavenger hunt that will incorporate Diigo in thesaving of the tasks. The sites were chosen to educate you on important educational

    issues around technology, curriculum and social justice. Enjoy!

    1.Go to theNational Archiveswebsite. You will be exploring their Online Exhibits.Choose an exhibit that looks interesting. After selecting an exhibit, bookmark the

    site to Diigo.

    3.Stop Cyber Bullying is a web site dedicated to educate students, parents, teachers,and the community about the issue of cyberbullying. Post this site to Diigo.

    Description: (skip the intro) Look at the page with the grade rangeyou most likely see yourself teaching. Take the quiz on cyberbullying

    (click [Learn More] in the Are You a Cyberbully? section found at the

    top of the grade range page) and discuss your score. Go to the area for

    teachers (with the apple in the body) read a few areas and discuss

    something you learned and how it can help you in your classroom. (your

    8.Go to theFree Ricewebsite and choose a subject to play. Bookmark the subject youinvestigated to Diigo.

    Title Ensure that Free Rice and your subject is in the title.

    Description: After playing for 10 minutes, list the number of grains of rice youdonated. Discuss how you might use this site in your classroom.

    TagRoll and SubmissionYou will put a Diigotagrollon your blog (you will copy the code and post

    it as a page on your blog). The end result should be an interactive tagroll
