The basic skills of decoding will be secured so that pupils can become fluent readers.
The emphasis will move towards developing comprehension skills.
As their confidence grows, pupils should be able to write theirown ideas with increasing accuracy and skill.
Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar will be a focus.
As well as developing their understanding of Place Value and basic math’s skills pupils will develop their reasoning and mathematical thinking skills
in order to develop their problem solving.

Talk for writing at St Gregory CEVC Primary School
From September 2016 we have introduced a whole school approach to teaching writing called ‘Talk for writing’.
Talk for Writing is an approach developed by Pie Corbett and it encourages the children to talk about their ideas and the keyfeatures of a text. We are focusing on story writing. The three stages to teaching writing are:
‘Imitation’ - The children retell a story by heart, internalising language patterns so they can discuss and dissect it, using visual story maps as a prompt and incorporating drama and games too.
‘Innovation’ - The children adapt stories to create their own versions, looking closely at the key features of the story including spelling, grammar, vocabulary and punctuation.
‘Invention’ - The children write their own story by drawing upon a bank of stories they know really well, experiences, and other stories they have read or seen. They will reuse familiar characters, settings, events and patterns as well as developing new ideas.
The children and staff are enthusiastic about ‘Talk for writing’ and there will be more details to follow including workshops later on in the term.

Maths Passports
Milk
Children in Year 2 have the opportunity to have milk at morning break. You pay online, direct to Cool Milk and Mrs Gane has the registration forms in the office.
P.E:
PE is on a Tuesday and Friday but it would be a good idea if your child could have their named PE kit in school all week. This includes: tracksuit, plain shorts and t-shirt and a suitable change of footwear. Please could earrings be removed on PE days, for your child’s safety, or covered with suitable tape provided from home.
Medical:
Please ensure that both the office and myself are aware and up to date with any medical issues.
Water Bottles:
We encourage your child to bring a named water bottle to school each day.
Snacks:
We would encourage your child to bring a healthy snack for morning break. The school is also provided with fruit snacks that your child can have.
Show and Tell:
There is not a set day for Show and Tell but if your child has something, topic related, that they would like to bring in and share that is okay.
Christmas
Oak, Maple and Apples will be performing their Nativity in All Saints Church on Thursday 14th
December at 2pm. Everyone welcome.
