Snugpak® has traded forover thirty years theproduct of an originalcottage industry. In thelate 1970’s a deep seadiver (doing high riskrepair work on oil rigs)saw a gap in the marketfor American style bodywarmers that he had seenAmerican co workerswearing to work. Unableto purchase these in theUK he set to work on thedesigns, making patternson his kitchen table andlearning to sew.

He used his freeweekends to sell hisproducts on local marketswhilst paying themortgage with his day job.

As demand grew hestarted to take on sewingstaff and rented a smallunit in the town andstarted to advertise hisproducts nationally atoutdoor exhibitions, therange at this time hadexpanded into clothingand was about to leap intothe pack size sleepingbags that made thecompany famous.

With a technicalbackground it was notlong before heapproached a localengineer to producebespoke machinery toreduce costs and savetime, doing so brought anew level of automationto the industry.

These unique techniquesallowed him tocompetitively bring hisideas of low weight andpack size sleeping bags toa market used to buyingoversized equipment.

The pioneering Softie®

insulated range waslaunched in the early1980’s and was unlike anysynthetic sleeping bag onthe market.

Now firmly established inthe camping and outdoormarket word started tospread within the militaryabout the superiorperformance of Snugpak®

sleeping bags andinsulated clothing and itwas not long before olivegreen options of productwere widely available.Versions of the Snugpak®

Softie® product havebeen used in everyconflict since theFalklands war and havebeen specified and usedby military forces aroundthe globe including USA,Australia and Europe.

Returning to their roots inthe 1990’s Snugpak®

developed a synthetic filldeep sea diving insulatedsuit (for another GreatBritish company Weezle™

which went on to showthat along with thesleeping bags and jacketsthe insulation will stillcontinue to protect theuser if they accidently getwet as they still retain alot of their structure. Thisitem went on to win theMillennium ProductAward for its design.

The 2000’s have seen thecompany grow from astrong Britishmanufacturing companyinto an internationallyrecognised brand, twicewinning the QueensAward for Enterprise inInternational Trade.

2006 saw the retirementof the original companyowner but it was businessas usual with the longterm company directorsseamlessly carrying onthe legacy andcommitment to affordableBritish manufacturing.

Temperature ratings andweights given throughoutthe catalogue are forguidance only and in themain are drawn from ourthirty years of experienceand customer feed back(we are always delightedto hear how you get on!)

Our sleeping bags havealso been tested byUniversities and specialisttest institutions in the UKand Europe in accordancewith practices laid out bythe European OutdoorGroup and EN 13537,these figures areavailable on request but itis important to ensurethat you are familiar withthe testing procedure andknow how to interpret theresults particularly theirextreme figures.

Comfort figures assumeyou will be sleepinglightly clothed (thermalbase layer or PJ's) withina tent on a good qualitysleep mat and we wouldhope that this figure willnot disappoint themajority of users. Thereare many variablesinvolved in a goodnights sleep not leastfitness andmetabolism. If indoubt stickto thecomfortfigure!

All pack sizes are fullycompressed (where theproduct comes suppliedwith a compression stuffsack) all sleeping bagsdo, along with many ofour new Elite clothingproducts.

The finished productleaves the factory rolledinto the stuff sack as wehave too many to pack byhand but we wouldsuggest that you stuffyour product back into itspack as repeated rollingover the years can lead tostress on the insulation.For long term storage wewould advise you not tokeep the product fullycompressed.

SOFTIE® CHRYSALISA SLEEPING BAG INSPIRED BY EVOLUTION

The Sleeping bag has evolvedto the next level. The Softie®Chrysalis sleeping bag givesthe versatility to tackle anytrip. The key to it's ability iscontrolling temperature andcomfort by being able totransform from a warm, snugsleeping bag, into a cool andspacious sleeping bag.

The bag boasts all the featuresof a traditional sleeping bagbut the jumbo zip baffle canbe opened out to give muchmore room within thesleeping bag. Deploying the‘expander panel’ reduces thetemperature rating slightly,the extra space within the bagallows more air to movearound keeping the bagcooler. This temperaturemanagement gives your bagmuch more flexibilityallowing you to confidently

select a product that canperform in a range ofdifferent conditions, so if thetemperature drops you zipthe sleeping bag tighter andinstantly boost theperformance.

Choosing the right sleepingbag for unpredictable weatheris never straightforward but aguaranteed right answer hasgot one step closer with theChrysalis range.

Stage 1At first glance anotherquality sleeping bag fromSnugpak, with chrysalisexpander not deployed useit like you would any othersleeping bag.

Stage 2In normal use the expanderworks as a super chunky zipbaffle sealing the zip fromdraughts. Two way zipsallow venting.

Stage 3Undo the internal retainingzip and the baffle opens outinto a stretchy panel ofinsulated material.

Stage 4The chrysalis expanderpanel allows between 10cm and 22cm extrasleeping space atmaximum expansion.

Stage 5Once completely unzippedthe retaining zip thenslides into the external zipand reseals, giving a muchwider bag.

Stage 6After only a few momentsthe transformation iscomplete, the bag nowallows a greater degree ofmovement.

The sleeping bag has evolved to the next level. SnugpakEPS (Expander Panel System) bags give versatility to

tackle any adventure. The key is its ability to controltemperature and comfort by being able to transform

from a warm, snug sleeping bag, into a cool andspacious one. The bag boasts all the features of

traditional sleeping bags but the jumbo zip baffle canbe opened out to give much more room when needed.

The extra space within the bag allows more air to movearound keeping the bag cooler. This temperature

management gives your bag much more flexibilityallowing you to confidently select a product that can

perform in a range of different conditions, so when thetemperature drops, you can zip the sleeping bag tighter

and instantly boost its performance.

Stage 1At first glance another qualitysleeping bag from Snugpak,with EPS not deployed, use itlike you would any othersleeping bag.

Stage 2In normal use the EPS works asa super chunky zip bafflesealing the zip from draughts.Two way zips allow venting.

Stage 3Undo the internal retaining zipand the baffle opens out into astretchy panel of insulatedmaterial.

Stage 4The EPS expander panel allowsbetween 10 cm and 22cm extrasleeping space at maximumexpansion.

Stage 5Once completely unzipped theretaining zip then slides intothe external zip and reseals,giving a much wider bag.

Stage 6After only a few moments thetransformation is complete,the bag now allows a greaterdegree of movement.

Softie®- The brand name for thesynthetic (Polyester) filling we usefor the Softie® ranges of sleepingbags. It utilises superfine yarnsbound with special resins toproduce a luxurious down likefeel. It is created from staple yarnswhich mirror the compositions ofnatural insulations (as opposed tocontinuously extruded as in mostsynthetic fills) a variety of yarnprocesses are applied to give amore random effect, that is someare curled, some crimped andsome are just left as they are. Therandom nature of the processresults in a product that closelyresembles the structure of naturalinsulators and the way theyperform. Given all this technologySoftie® is still easy to care for,washable and retains a lot of itsthermal properties when wet.

As part of our continuingdevelopment process to keep oursynthetic insulation at the leadingedge we are pleased to introducethe next generation in sleeping bagtechnology. Softie® Premier usesthe same basic principles astraditional Softie® butimprovements in extrusiontechnology and binding resins resultin a finer, softer and more durableinsulation. Both Softie® and Softie®

Premier are exclusive to Snugpak.

Our ‘Sleeper’ range are filled with‘Isofibre' siliconised hollowfibre. The synthetic fibres arestructured to trap warm airbetween tiny cavities in the fibre.When unpacked the 'Hollowfibres'decompress and spring back togain maximum re-loft.

Travel Soft is the inner filling ofthe ‘Travelpak’ sleeping bags.This insulation is tailored toSnugpak's exact brief. Ultralightweight high loft fine fibresare used which have excellentcompressibility. By design thesetravel orientated fibres provideless bulk of fill than that of otherSnugpak bags, yet are still ableto perform very efficiently. Theweight of the fibres makes it theperfect fill for adventure travel-orientated sleeping bags.

Reflectatherm, this metallisedfabric is designed to reflectheat and retain warmth. Ahighly breathable material,which adds little to the weightor packsize of the product andprovides at least 15%additional warmth whilst beingundetectable by touch in thesleeping bag or garment.

The latest breakthrough inantibacterial technology thisspecialist antibacterial andantimicrobial treatment on theouter and linings of all theTravelpak® range acts todiscourage the growth of bacteria.This results in a reduction ofodours and the need for regularlaundering of the sleeping bag tokeep it smelling fresh, ideal forprolonged tropical travel wheretemperatures may be high andfacilities limited. The Paratex® basefabrics wicking properties and highbreathability remain unaffected bythe bacteria busting treatments.

ONE

Thermal suede is lightweightpolyester with a suede finishwhich uses a combination ofyarns with different thicknesses.Microfibre yarns (less than 1decitex) go on the outside andMacrofibre (3 decitex) go on theinside. The Macro fibre yarns areraised to produce a short pile,similar in feel to Suede. Theconstruction exploits a basicphysical property - that waterwill always move from a low tohigh surface area or from theMacro to Micro filament yarns,thus moving water from the bodytowards the outside of the bag.

TECHNICAL INFORMATION

The outer of the ‘Travelpak’ is'Micro Diamond Ripstop' whichprovides a lightweight, waterrepellent casing, produced toSnugpak’s exact specification.The mini diamond weave and thelustre of the yarn give a uniquelook and handle to this bag.

windproof fabric has superiorwater resisting properties (thefabric itself has a Hydrostatichead in excess of 10,000mm butwater may eventually getthrough the seams). The fabric isa robust 100D comprising of 94%polyester, 6% elastane keepingyou warm, dry and comfortable."

The inner lining of the Sleeper is'Supersoft'. A silky smooth fabricspecially woven to produce ahighly durable and comfortablewicking breathable lining.
