SHOW DATE

Saturday, November 13, 2010 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

SHOW DESCRIPTION

Southern Nazarene University is kicking off its inaugural arts festival this fall. The festival is being scheduled alongside the expanding events of the university’s homecoming weekend. The exhibit is intended to reach the homecoming crowds and university student body, faculty, and staff. However, the festival is also open to the public and encourages the involvement of all local patrons and artists.

LOCATION

The festival will be an outdoor event spread up and down closed College Street in the heart of the university campus.

PARTICIPATION

The festival organizers are seeking the participation of artists in any of the following groups: SNU students, SNU alumni/faculty/staff, and any local artists. Exhibit selections will be made with the attempt at a balanced representation of each group, focusing on original, affordable, high quality fine art and fine craft. Selections will be made in any of the following media, but not limited to: acrylics, oils, watercolors, drawing, photography, ceramics, fiber, furniture, jewelry, printmaking, glass, metalwork, woodwork, sculpture, 2-D mixed media, and 3-D mixed media.

CALENDAR OF DEADLINES

• Final application: 10/1/10 • Notifications of acceptance: 10/15/10 • Last day for cancellation: 10/22/10 (alternatives will be invited after any cancellations) • Booth fee due: 11/1/10 (online payment options will be provided) • Set-up: 11/12/10, 3-8 p.m. • Break-down: 11/13/10, 7:00 p.m. (no early break-down allowed)

APPLICATION

Exhibitors will be given invitation to participate based on the application process, quality of work, availability of space, and the discretion of the festival. There is NO application fee. Submissions are to be made by: 1) mailing the application along with a CD of images, or 2) emailing the application along with images. CDs intended for return must be accompanied by a self-addressed envelop with sufficient postage. Notifications of acceptance will be made by email or mailing address provided.

The festival requires 5 images of which at least 4 must be of individual pieces that best represent the work (in subject and media) the artist intends to exhibit. The 5th image should be of a booth or collection shot (if available) that represents the artists overall body of work. Images may be mailed on CD or emailed along with the application to: Medium Studio and Gallery 803 N Hudson Oklahoma City, OK 73102 [email protected]

SHOW/ARTIST INFORMATION

Tent space will be made available along College Street. An indoor option will be available in case of inclement weather. Tent sizes will be 12’ x 12’, divided into fourths (so each artist will have a 6’ x 6’

space), and will have limited electricity provided. All spaces will be single, 6’ x 6’, but double size requests will be considered for twice the tent fee. All tents will be handicap accessible.

FEES

• Booth fees will be as follows: • SNU students – $15 • SNU alumni/faculty/staff – $25 • All other exhibitors – $50 • If double booth is requested, it will be honored as space allows and the fee will be twice the

amount of the listed amount. BOOTH ACCOMMODATIONS

Booth assignments are at the sole discretion of the festival organizers. The hanging system for 2-D works will be provided by the festival. (Details will be provided at the time of the acceptance notifications.) Any other items, hardware, or lighting needed for display will need to be furnished by the exhibitor and must be able to withstand crowds and the weather. 3-D artists will need to supply their own displays. The festival will provide signage for the booth listing the name of the artist, media, and hometown. Check-in and set-up will begin on Friday, 11-12, 3-8 p.m. A valid ID will be required at the time of check-in. All set-up must be completed prior to the beginning of the festival. No additional set-up will be allowed during exhibit hours. Break-down will be started at the end of the festival hours after 5:00 p.m.

SHOW REQUIREMENTS

All artists must be present for the duration of the festival. While assistants and representatives are welcome, they are not to be used in place of the artist. Booth sitters and volunteers will be available as needed for breaks. All work displayed on site must be consistent with the work shown in the digital images submitted. No work outside of your juried category will be allowed. All work shown must be original pieces and made by the exhibiting artist. Works made from commercial molds, kits, patterns, or copyrighted material not owned by the artist are not permitted. Any commercially made embellishments must be subordinate to the handcrafted work. All work must be for sale and nothing for display purposes only. The festival will make any final decisions about any related matters to craftsmanship, originality, subject matter, and media.

SALES

The festival will handle all sales with their merchant processing system. Oklahoma tax will be applied to all sales, SNU will retain a 10% commission, and the exhibitor will be remitted the balance by check within two weeks after the festival.

SECURITY

Security will be provided throughout the festival during the hours of set-up, break-down, and Friday overnight. However, all exhibitors show and work at their own risk. It is understood that SNU does not carry insurance to cover personal property of any exhibitors. Exhibitors are considered to be independent contractors, and it is suggested that they obtain their own insurance if they require it.

MISC.

Because the festival is held on a private university campus and expects the participation of many children and families, the festival requires that all exhibits be appropriate in subject matter for all audiences.

Southern Nazarene University is a totally smoke-free campus. Exhibitors who wish to smoke are asked to do so off campus during their routine breaks.
