Having hosted the 1956 Olympic Games and the
World Championships in 1932 and 1941, the town
of Cortina d‘Ampezzo in the Dolomites will be the
venue for a major skiing event for the fourth time.
The snowmaking system is currently being mod-
ernized in preparation for this occasion in order to
optimize the conditions. The downhill races, the
Super G, the giant slalom, the parallel slalom and
the team event in 2021 will be held on the slopes of
Ista Cortina, a TechnoAlpin customer from the very
beginning. A total of 32 new fan guns, including
six TR10, eight TR8 and three TF10 models, will
ensure optimum snow conditions. The capacity of
the Duca d‘Aosta and Piè Tofana pumping stations
will also be signifi cantly increased in order to ensure
optimum water supply to the system.
The resort of Impianti Averau (Cinque Torri) will
be used at the 2021 World Cup for the qualifi ers,
and the slopes will be used for training purposes.

The world market leader is also in demand as a
product partner at national level. TechnoAlpin has
been the offi cial supplier of the umbrella associa-
tion of Swiss winter sports Swiss-Ski since
2016 and supports the teams and events with
snowmaking for the ski slopes. The German Ski
Association (DSV) also relies on TechnoAlpin as
the offi cial supplier of the German national ski team,
especially with the help of the latest Snowfactory
technology for guaranteed snow at World Cup
events. All the partners are united by the demand
for top snow quality worldwide. TechnoAlpin has
always been able to meet this demand.
TechnoAlpin has been an offi cial product partner
of the International Ski Federation (FIS) since
2016 and, in this role, is also the point of contact
for all technical issues concerning snowmaking.
In its capacity as offi cial supplier, it has also been
working with World Para Snow Sports, the body
responsible for the para snow disciplines within the
International Paralympic Committee, since 2018.
The start of the 2019/20 winter season heralds the
proud announcement of another partnership: The
International Biathlon Union (IBU) recently
made TechnoAlpin an offi cial product partner for
snowmaking systems and, consequently, supplier
for all Olympic snow sports disciplines. These three
largest winter sports associations not only take
care of the many major events but are also points
of contact for venues which have less experience in
winter sports.
The three main winter sports federations in the world rely on the many years
of experience and extensive know-how of TechnoAlpin when it comes to quality.

expertise of TechnoAlpin, the world market leader.
The goal of the project is to renovate the existing
small snowmaking system. This year, the project
will focus on the central part of the ski area and the
slopes leading back to the valley.
In order to enable greater snowmaking fl exibility, the
operator wished to install snowmaking technology
combining lances and fan guns. In total, 55 Rubis
Evo lances, 16 T40 fan guns and one TR8 have
been installed on the slopes of the ski area. Two
existing M15 snow guns belonging to the resort
have been modernized.
Thanks to this project to modernize the ski area,
Thollon Les Mémises will secure its operation and
ensure its continued success in future winter sea-
sons. TechnoAlpin is very proud to be a part of it.

For technical snow, the operator of the Vars ski
resort wished to extend the snowmaking systems
on the main slopes of the ski area to reduce their
susceptibility to adverse weather conditions, while
continuing to offer visitors the best possible skiing
conditions. The 2019 project predominantly focuses
on the Peynier area and will guarantee snow cov-
erage on the slopes that are not currently served
by snowmaking technology. The water supply will
be secured, and around fifteen TechnoAlpin fan
guns and seven lances installed in 2011 at the
base of the Chabrière area which, until now, have
been controlled by radio, will be integrated into the
control system.
This year, 53 pits for lances equipped with V3
lances, 38 of which are V3ee models, have been
installed alongside the Peynier slopes. For this
project, TechnoAlpin has proposed the V3 “energy

“The fact that we were able to win all the contracts
is mainly due to our excellent structure in China. We
have had our own branch office there since 2013.
The 40 members of staff take care of the project
management work and provide optimum service.
Other factors which enabled us to develop the best
technical solution included our experience at other
major events and the know-how we have gathered
over many years of involvement in global projects,”
explained Michael Mayr, Area Manager for Tech-
noAlpin in Asia.
“After Sochi and Pyeongchang, this is the third con-
secutive time that TechnoAlpin has been involved in
the Olympic Games. We are especially proud that
we have managed to get a bigger share of the or-

of our reliability and efficiency,” said
TechnoAlpin CEO Erich Gummerer with justified
confidence in the company‘s performance.
A total of four new arenas will be built or expanded
for the various races in downhill skiing, freestyle,
Nordic and snowboarding. The contracts for the
projects were awarded between the spring of 2018
and the summer of 2019. All the contracts have
now been signed and the construction phase for
the first projects is already in full swing.
The largest project is the one in Yanqing where a
completely new ski resort is being built which will
include the Xiaohaituo ski center. All the men’s and
women‘s downhill events will be held there. The
TechnoAlpin team will install a total of 200 new
snow guns and 32 pumps there in the summer of
2019.

The Guyangshu Nordic Center, on the other
hand, is a completely new building where all the
cross-country skiing, biathlon, ski jumping and
combined events will be held. TechnoAlpin will be
supplying 40 mobile snow guns and 15 lances here.
The supposedly smallest – but no less spectacu-
lar – project is the one for the big air competitions.
These competitions will be held in the center of Bei-
jing and will attract a lot of public attention. Seven
snow guns will provide the appropriate surface at
the facility.
TechnoAlpin has secured orders for 350 snow
guns in total. Three of the four projects were public
tenders. The project in Secret Garden was the
only one to be restricted to private bidders. All the
systems will be supplied as fully automatic turnkey
systems designed by TechnoAlpin. The contract is
worth around 20 million euro in total.
TECHNOALPIN IN CHINA
The TechnoAlpin branch in China was ope-
ned in 2013. It is located in Hebei Province
near Beijing. It now employs about 40 peo-
ple, mainly in service, project management
and sales. All the snow guns still come from
the headquarters in Bolzano but steel parts
like towers and undercarriages for the
Chinese market are produced locally. The
branch generates annual sales revenues of
15-20 million euro.

“The time just flew by,” he added. “The colleagues
there gave me a warm welcome and I made some
friends in the three years and got to know the
country better. There is only so much you can
do when you are a tourist but the experience of
living there is awesome. I even got married in Las
Vegas.” Now, after 13 years of traveling in total, it
was time for Michael to return to South Tyrol. He
is now back at the head office of TechnoAlpin in
Bolzano. “I can recommend this opportunity to an-
yone who would like to get experience away from
home as well.”
Michael’s career at TechnoAlpin started in the pro-
duction department. He was there for one year and
then moved to the after-sales service department
for two years before switching to the systems engi-
neering department where he still works today.
There are many opportunities to work abroad with
TechnoAlpin because of its international set-up.
Michael therefore seized a new opportunity in 2016
and went to America for three years to work in the
US branch of TechnoAlpin, based in Denver. “It was
time for me to try something new, so I decided to
take up the challenge,” said Michael. He moved to
Denver with his wife and continued to work there
as a project manager, appreciating the change
and dedicating his energy to the satisfaction of the
customers of TechnoAlpin.
Michael Wieser has been working at
TechnoAlpin for almost 15 years. Having
spent three years in the branch in
America, the South Tyrolean is returning
home now all the richer for the experience.

MOUNTAINHIGH RESORT
Mountain High Resort insouthern California prepares for the ski season – and the future – with the latest TechnoAlpintechnology.
WINTERANTICIPATION!
USA

Nestled in the San Gabriel Moun-
tains, Mountain High Resort is a
winter oasis for the beach-loving re-
sidents of Los Angeles and southern
California. It’s home to three villages
and 290 acres but averages just
282 cm of natural snowfall per year.
“The power consumption on them is good,” Chil-
dress says. “We call some of the different brands
“power hogs”. These [TechnoAlpin] fans that we got
don’t use very much power at all.” Childress says
the new TechnoAlpin guns will save the resort up to
130,000 € per season in fuel costs alone and meet
its environmental goals. The V3 snow lances feature
fixed air consumption, which reduces the resort’s
number of air compressors and bolsters marginal
snow production. In addition, they are easy to use:
“The older-style equipment we had, you constantly
had to stay on top of it, make adjustments,” Chil-
dress says. “This stuff is a no-brainer. It’s just easier
than the older technology.”
Snowmaking is Mountain High’s only hope of
staying open from November to April, and that’s
where snowmaking manager Mike Childress comes
in. He purchased two TechnoAlpin snow guns for
the 2018-2019 season and was immediately im-
pressed, calling them “amazing.”
Childress tested equipment of different suppliers,
but after one season, he was sold on their snow-
making capacity and energy efficiency, especially in
the warm weeks before opening day.
This season, Mountain High purchased 100 V3
snow lances and three more fan guns, including
mobile and tower-mountain TR8s and TF10s. That’s
enough equipment to cover 218 acres – roughly 80
percent of in-bounds terrain.

SNOWMASTER
TechnoAlpin has again proved its pioneering status
in snowmaking technology. Having developed the
SNOWMASTER app, TechnoAlpin is the first sup-
plier to provide ski resorts with forecasts for snow
production. This can only be achieved with the
benefit of expertise gathered over many years and
meticulous calculations and is made possible by the
data from ATASSplus. Taking account of detailed
weather forecasts, the SNOWMASTER app projects
the amount of snow which it will be possible to pro-
duce in the next few days and the amount of water
which will be required to do so.
These detailed projections make it even easier
to plan snowmaking in that the SNOWMASTER
app provides a simple overview of the defined
snowmaking targets and phases. It shows clearly
which phase of snowmaking is currently taking
place and how the resources can be best used,
given the information provided in the forecasts.
It also shows the extent to which the set snow-
making target or seasonal target has already been
achieved and what progress can be made in the
next few days.
The SNOWMASTER app marks the next
step towards digitization for ski resorts.
It can provide the managers of ski
resorts with an unrestricted overview of
the planning and progress of the snow-
making processes.
MAKING TOMORROW’S DECISIONS TODAY TechnoAlpin forecasts snow production for the next few days.
22
MAKINGTOMORROW’SDECISIONSTODAY
therefore it accesses large amounts of the data col-
lected by the control system relating to the amount
of snow produced, utilization rate, water consump-
tion and temperatures. The system is still controlled
by the snowmaker via ATASSplus, and all the data
required to make decisions are displayed quickly
and clearly in the SNOWMASTER app in real time.
All these data form a reliable basis for making
decisions as to what steps to take next to prepare
for the start of the season and to manage the
resources.
SMART COMMUNICATIONSINGLE INTERFACE.
The app simplifi es communication between
management and snowmaking team and answers
all the key questions: How much snow is on the
slope? How many hours have the snow producers
been in use? How many snow producers were in
operation? And most importantly: when can I open
the ski resort? All the data are merged quickly and
clearly in the SNOWMASTER app and summarized
by slopes. The app is connected to ATASSplus

SWITZERLAND
This year, NV Remontées Mécaniques SA, the operator of the Veysonnaz and Nendaz
mountain ski resorts, which form part of the prestigious 4 Vallées ski area in Valais,
Switzerland, is continuing its ambitious investment program to strengthen its attrac-
tiveness and the performance of its snowmaking systems. The 2019 snowmaking
project, entrusted to TechnoAlpin, will focus on the Creppon ski area.
CLOSER THAN EVER!For the fi rst time, the Nendaz and Veysonnaz snowmaking systems will be connected.
26
NENDAZ
To enable the link between the two systems, more
than 16 km of cast-iron pipes have been laid.
Thanks to TechnoAlpin‘s technical expertise, the
operator will have access to an optimal tool for
managing the water supply and ensuring sea-
son-long snowmaking. To complete the installation,
two new machine rooms and 13 valve chambers
have been built.
An additional 128 pits have been installed by Tech-
noAlpin on the slopes, mainly those leading from
the summit of Greppon Blanc to Veysonnaz. Fifty
TR8, eleven TF10 and forty-five V3ee lances will
complete the existing snowmaking system. In fact,
there are already 200 TechnoAlpin fan guns in the
ski area. With the new equipment, NV Remontées
Mécaniques can ensure the highest level of custom-
er satisfaction.
The 2019 expansion has two goals: to reinforce
the sharing of water resources by connecting the
Nendaz and Veysonnaz systems and to extend
the technical snowmaking system to guarantee
snow coverage on the new slopes. Until now, the
systems at the two sites have never been con-

ONE SINGLE PARTNER FOR SUCCESSThe Kolej Linowa Czantoria skicomplex in southern Polandhas chosen TechnoAlpin to be the main contractor for the construction of its new pumping station.

The turnkey system was recently handed over
to the customer. The manager of the ski resort,
Zbigniew Kufrje, was extremely satisfied with the
result. “We have found in TechnoAlpin the con-
summate professional who understands what the
customer wants and provides solutions to individual
requirements,” he said. “We therefore hope to work
with the company again in future.”
The popular family ski resort boasts modern ski lifts
and a range of slopes of varying levels of difficulty.
There is lighting in the appropriate places on the
slopes, allowing skiing to continue late into the
evening.
Kolej Linowa Czantoria decided to rebuild the
existing pumping station in its snowmaking system
in 2018 and chose to work with TechnoAlpin for
the first time for this major project. The technology
leader acted as general contractor for the rebuild
and coordinated all the phases of the project: from
the project planning and development and approval
procedures right through to delivery, construction
and installation, TechnoAlpin supplied the full pack-
age of services from a single source The pumping
station was relocated by around 100m, its pumping
capacity was significantly increased by two new
additional pumps, old pipes were replaced, and
the installation was integrated into the ATASSplus
control system. The project proved to be extremely
complex due to the characteristics of the terrain at
local level.
FROM THE PROJECT PLANNING AND DEVEL-OPMENT AND APPROV-AL PROCEDURES RIGHT THROUGH TO DELIVERY, CONSTRUCTION AND IN-STALLATION, TECHNOAL-PIN SUPPLIED THE FULL PACKAGE OF SERVICES FROM A SINGLE SOURCE.
«Kolej Linowa Czantoria is only an
hour’s drive from the major cities of
Ostrava and Katowice, while Krakow is
about two hours away.

LAKE MOUNTAIN ALPINE RESORT
AUSTRALIA
NO MORE SLEEP- LESS NIGHTSLake Mountain Alpine Resort opts for automation with combined snowmaking technology for the ski resort.
30
AUSTRALIA
The Lake Mountain Alpine Resort in Australia modernized its system in 2019,
investing in the most advanced technology. Resort manager Alan Eason talks about
the advantages of this profitable partnership in an interview with TechnoAlpin.
The Lake Mountain Alpine Resort has relied exclu-
sively on TechnoAlpin technology for snowmaking
since 2019. In addition to the classic snowmaking
processes, the ski resort is now also relying on a
Snowfactory SF210 for supplementary production.
The use of the snow gun for warmer temperatures
spells the most prominent change in the approach
to snowmaking in the ski resort. It allows the sea-
son to be extended by opening earlier and closing
later.
A new compact pumping station was also in-
stalled in the ski resort in 2019. It was supplied
ready-welded by TechnoAlpin and comprises four
powerful pumps on one frame. This makes it the
largest pump assembly of its kind ever installed by
TechnoAlpin. The unique design brings an enor-
mous reduction in installation time.
What were the key drivers
and motivations for choosing the
solutions from TechnoAlpin?
TechnoAlpin always offered a number of very clear
and well-defined snowmaking solutions from the
start, the sales and engineering team provided all
the information in a clear way which allowed the
resorts management board to have confidence in
the purchase of the first snowmaking gun.
What is important for you in
relationship with TechnoAlpin as your
snowmaking supplier?
TechnoAlpin has always been very supportive from
the outset and has always suggested and provid-
ed a clean and efficient snowmaking system with
options for future expansion built in. We have built a
strong relationship with the TechnoAlpin-Team over
the past years, and providing information on pos-
sible development changes to the likes of the new
SF220 Snowfactory has strengthened the relation-
ship even more.

AUSTRALIA
WE CAN FINALLYSLEEP PEACEFULLY THANKS TO THEMOBILE ATASSPLUS APP.«
How can TechnoAlpin help you
facing the main challenges that you
are facing?
The greatest challenge for us is the ever-changing
climate and more reliance on snowmaking over
natural snow falls. Lake Mountain Alpine Resort
likes the guarantee to open the resort, even when it
doesn’t reach the right conditions for snowmaking.
TechnoAlpin is able to off er solutions to fi t each area
of growth, the changes to climate and the unpre-
dictable winter season in Australia.
Did you notice any diff erence
in your work since you work with this
new system/installation?
By moving to a fully automated pump station and
the installation of the Snowfactory, it has become
apparent that less time is needed to run the snow-
making system. We can use every single snowmak-
ing window, with the confi dence in ATASSplus to
provide all the controls needed to operate as a fully
automated system.
The biggest change was using ATASSplus on the
phone and the ability to be sent alerts at any point
of the day in any location on or off mountain. Sleep-
ing at night has become easier, and the days of
working a night shift have all but gone and we work
more successfully.

destined for locations all over the world. The 1000th
fan gun of the year again left the factory in the
summer months, repeating the record achievement
of previous years. It was a TR10, of course, the
latest model from TechnoAlpin. It was delivered to
one of our original partners, the Bergbahnen Sölden
mountain lift company. As was fitting for the occa-
sion, the machine was finished in a special design
for 007 Elements in Sölden and will not only be
providing optimum snow conditions there but will
also be a great eye-catching feature.
…that our partner Porini won
a Microsoft award for its project with
TechnoAlpin?
TechnoAlpin has been working with the software
company Porini in the field of digital cloud solutions
since 2017. The company has now been handed
the “Digital Transformation - Transform your Prod-
ucts” Silver Award at the Microsoft Inspire Italian
Partners Ceremony in Las Vegas for its use of AI
(artificial intelligence) in snowmaking systems with
the aid of IoT technology and Microsoft Azure cloud
services. The award is presented annually by Micro-
soft Corporation to partners who have come up with
solutions which help companies to make innovative
improvements to their production model.
…that TechnoAlpin uses cardboard
filling material for shipping?
Thousands of shipments leave the TechnoAlpin
warehouses every year bound for destinations all
over the world. Following a recent move towards
more eco-friendly use of resources, only cardboard
infill material has been used recently for the parcels.
TechnoAlpin therefore avoids nylon altogether and
reduces its plastic waste.
…that the 1,000th fan gun produced
by TechnoAlpin in 2019 is a special
edition for 007 Elements museum in
Sölden?
More than 5,500 snow guns, including almost
3,000 fan guns, are produced annually at the
TechnoAlpin production base in Bolzano and are
