    SUMMER NIGHT LIGHTS 2011YOUTH SQUAD EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY

    Program Overview:The Mayors Summer Ni ght Lights ( SNL) pr ogram is a viole nce reductio n strategy w hichprovides extended programming between the h ours of 7 p.m. to midnight, 4 days a weekthroughout the summer months. SNL provides free programming for the entire community ,

    which include those wh o are p otential victims and potential p erpetrators o f violence. SNLpartners include the Citys Department of Recreation and Par ks (RAP), th e Los AngelesPolice Department (LAPD), and the Los Angeles Conservation Corps (LACC).

    The SNL program will take place at 32 sites in the summer of 2011. At each SNL site, 10youth are hired from the surrounding community to assist in implementing SNL programmingsuch as spo rts leagues, arts workshops, educational worksho ps, etc. As a Youth Sq uadmember, you will be provided training & linked to educational & empl oyment opportunitiesbeyond the SNL program.

    Qualifications:

    Must be between the ages of 17 and 20. Must live, know, a nd understand t he immediat e nei ghborhood where the SNL

    program is being offered.

    Ability to work with people from different cultures, neighborhoods and ethnic groups. Must be willing to participate in life skills and youth development training. Must be willing to establish short and medium range personal development goals. Ability to w ork as part of a team t hat includ es city departments, community

    organizations, community peacemakers, and law enforcement. Capable of taking supervisory directions from multiple program coordinators.Fingerp rinting clearance.

    Job Description:

    Work with SNL pro gram staff to help plan and implement summer prog ram an devents at assigned SNL site.

    Act as a community liaison or neighborhood rep resentative betwee n the program,youth, community resid ents, local busine sses, a nd law enforcement in promotin g

    safety. Attend and participate fully in all program trainings, meetings, & planning sessions. Conduct data collection and data entry after receiving related training. Carry out th e logistics of setting up, breaking down, and closing the SNL program

    each night. Participate in all activities related to food preparation, food delivery, and clean up for

    SNL participants on a daily basis.

    Work Da ys and Hours: Tuesday 1-5pm, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday & Saturday 3:30p.m. to 12:30 a.m.
