PRETORIA HIGH SCHOOL FOR GIRLS
Lizzie Harrison from Emma Sadleir’s law firm The Digital Law Company, addressed the school in assembly on 20 September. Her riveng speech on social media had students and teachers alike glued to her every word.
Those that aended learnt that even when you delete something it always remains in the cloud, they learnt that “the screen shot is the devil”, that it is important not to talk to people you don't know (seems obvious but is very tricky), they learnt to leave WhatsApp groups where things are being discussed that are malicious, because even though you may remain quiet you are legally equally as liable, and they learnt that if you wouldn't want you mom to see it, DON'T SEND IT!

UNESCO
On Thursday 31 August our Model United Naons society had two teams taking part in a UNESCO event at Jeppe Boys' High School, discussing the topic of the youth in global governance.
Kiese Mpasa, Beniciel Lonji, and Meagan Picton did an outstanding job of represenng the pro-youth delegaon of Ecuador, while Chipo Hansungule, Nolitha Mrwata, and Tshegofatso Matlou represented the People's Republic of China and played their cards a bit differently, arguing that the youth must first be educated significantly before their role in global governance would really maer.
Needless to say, we made sure we were noced.
We would like to thank our dedicated and ever supporve coach Kate Kabe for coming along, as well as our driver Mr Kgomo.
At the end of the day, a working document was successfully passed and Tshego walked away with the prize of third best speaker of the day. We would also like to congratulate our three first-me MUN debaters, Kiese, Nolitha, and Beniciel on a job well done, making it seem as though they have been doing it for years.

Lizzie taught learners the importance of using social media to build your digital CV, yes, one day your prospecve university or employer WILL be doing a search on you and profiling you accordingly. Unlike mes past where silly things you said or did where aributed to being young and naïve and were soon forgoen, it is now permanently recorded and you are legally responsible and can be sued in your own capacity from the early age of 7 years old!
Learners were advised to ensure the sengs on their social media are private to avoid unfavourable people from viewing their accounts. Under South African law, once you have posted something it becomes public knowledge, even
on WhatsApp.Did you know?:· When signing up to various well known social media accounts you have given them permission to, without your knowledge or any form of compensaon, use your content in whatever way they deem fit. They may use your bikini shot in an advert oversees on a billboard 20 years from now.· Reputable social media sites have relaxed certain public figures privacy seng for just 3 hours so that the media could access their informaon and photos – yes they can do that!· If you are tagged to a photo that may be deemed as discriminatory or malicious, you are legally equally as responsible as those that created, shared or liked it. Change your sengs so that people can't just tag you!If an app or site is promising you that you are anonymous, it is lying! Read the terms and condions.
PHSG celebrated heritage day with some of the young ladies dressed in full regalia. We are truly blessed to have so many girls from different cultures (Africa and abroad) in our school. To find such diversity at one establishment is a rare and informave gi, how many other students can start their careers aer leaving school with such an opportunity to develop knowledge and understanding about language, customs and tradions? The school was alive with colour on 22 September and the young ladies looked beauful!
