Tips for Making Cake Pops

Cake pops are a great treat that can be enjoyed by everyone. There are many combinations of cake mix, icings and decorations which are great for customising your cake pops exactly how you like them. Here are some steps to help you achieve perfect cake pops every time.• Make sure that you do not overfill the holes

in the cake pop maker as this will result in excess mixture forming around the centre of the cake pops.

• Once cooked, excess sponge around the middle of the cake pop can be carefully removed by hand or with a small knife.

• Make sure that your cooked cake pops have cooled completely before you start to decorate them.

• Before placing the cake pops onto sticks, dip the top of the stick in a little melted chocolate before pushing into the cake pop. This will help secure the cake pop.

• Once cake pops have been placed onto sticks, place into the fridge for 15-20 minutes. This will help set the chocolate on the stick and make the cake pops more stable for decorating.

• Chilling your cake pops before icing with melted chocolate will also help the chocolate icing to set quicker.

• If decorating using a butter cream style icing, a warm flat knife will help give a smoother finish to the icing.

• A palette knife is a great tool for applying icing to cake pops. The wide flat edge helps apply the icing evenly.

• To achieve a smooth finish when coating in chocolate or glace icing, dip the entire cake pop into the icing then slowly rotate the cake pop. The excess icing will fall from the cake pop leaving you with an even coating.

• Avoid tapping the cake pop to remove excess icing. This may cause your cake pop to fall from the stick.

• To achieve the best finish with chocolate icing, apply 2 coatings of icing letting the chocolate set in-between.

• The easiest decoration for a cake pop is to coat it in small sprinkles. Pour sprinkles onto a small plate or bowl then roll the iced cake pop lightly over the sprinkles until completely covered.

• Stand decorated cake pops into a tall glass to allow your icing to set.

• If you are not placing your cake pops onto sticks, place onto greaseproof or baking paper to set. This will make the cake pop easy to remove once set.
