The 2016 Girl Scouts of Southeastern New England Girl Scout Cookie Program was agreat success with over 715500 boxes sold This yearrsquos sale began in January with acookie rally at The Dunkin Donuts Center where close to 1000 Girl Scouts troopleaders and their families came out to participate in a variety of fun filled activities toget them excited about the cookie sale followed by an exciting P-Bruins game Girl Scouts throughout our council participated in countless cookie booths and manytook part in the Bling Your Booth challenge There were so many creative designs Wecanrsquot wait until next year to see more of the creativity that goes behind each of thesecookie booths Girls earned proceeds that will help them to fund troop activities community serviceprojects and to help send many to our beautiful GSSNE summer camps Participationin the program is more than just selling cookies The Girl Scout Cookie Programteaches girls how to serve as leaders for change they learn to make positive impactswithin their community and the world Girls are gaining 5 Skills when they participatein the Girl Scout Cookie Programmdashgoal setting decision making money managementpeople skills and business ethics these are skills they can carry with them for alifetime of success Changing the worldmdashit may sound like a huge job but thatrsquos what Girl Scouts do everyday with every positive decision they make Spreading a good attitude Working tohelp people in need Taking steps to be careful with our planet These are just a few ofthe things Girl Scouts are doing to change the world In 2017 we will be celebrating 100 years of Girl Scouts selling cookies We lookforward to the excitement that the centennial will bring We want to hear your favoritecookie stories so that we can share them throughout the 100th Anniversary Clickhere to share your cookie story with us We look forward to hearing how participationin the largest girl-led business in the world had an impact on your life

2016 Gold AwardsCelebrating the Centennial

The Girl Scout Gold Award is the highest award in Girl Scoutingmdashcreated in 1916 thisleadership award recognizes older girls who make a difference in their communities Historically the Gold Award has had a few different namesakes including the Golden Eagleof Merit (1916-1918) the Golden Eaglet (1919-1938) the Curved Bar Award (1940-1963) andthe First Class Award (1938-1940 and 1963-1980) Since 1916 approximately one million Girl Scouts have reached their Gold Award or theequivalent Present award requirements call for an 80 hour take action project created andcompleted by each girl as a means to make a sustainable impact within their localcommunity For the 2016 Centennial celebration GSSNE honored twelve Gold awardees atthe Rhode Island State House Governor Gina Raimondo (a former Girl Scout and GSSNE2015 Leading Women awardee) spoke along with Providence Mayor Jorge Elorzacommending our girls for their hard work and dedication to making the world a betterplace The 2016 GSSNE Gold awardees were Erin Chille Clara Crawford Stephanie DowlingSarah Goss Jessica Ilgenfritz Roxanne James Ashely Lamoureux Jennifer LepineHeather Maione Emily OConnell Grace Roebuck and Erica Winn Some members of the2016 Gold Award class are photographed above with Governor Raimondo

On June 4th we celebratedthe incredible volunteerswho are at the very heartof what we do

GSSNE has a new websiteIn mid-June we officially launched our brandnew council website The website now featuresa searchable forms section a simplified topmenu display a linkable events amp trainingcalendar and some of the latest greatestgraphics from GSUSA We are still working outthe kinks of the web migration but we arethrilled to share a cleaner leaner design forour membersWe hope the new platform will make the GirlScout web experience a little easier to navigateCheck out the new website at gssneorg

Morgan Lovely K-12 Program Specialist Morgan is ecstatic to have joined the GSSNE team as of this July inher role as Program Specialist K-12 She is bringing volunteer andseries programming experience from her prior role with Girls Scoutsof Connecticut Morgan obtained her bachelors degree in ExerciseScience from Southern Connecticut State University Her extensivebackground in working with kids and healthy living programs comesfrom her previous work within the Yale School of Medicines BrightBodies Weight Management Program for Kids as well as youth soccercoaching experience with Soccer Shots of Central ConnecticutMorgan is excited to take her creative energy and cook up somecontagious program opportunities for the girls of Southeastern NewEngland A few fun facts about Morgan she was home-schooled fromgrades 2-7 by her parents and she is a marathon runner Morganscontact information is 401-331-4500 x1424 and mlovelygssneorg

GSSNE has a new websiteIn mid-June we officially launched our brandnew council website The website now featuresa searchable forms section a simplified topmenu display a linkable events amp trainingcalendar and some of the latest greatestgraphics from GSUSA We are still working outthe kinks of the web migration but we arethrilled to share a cleaner leaner design forour membersWe hope the new platform will make the GirlScout web experience a little easier to navigateCheck out the new website at gssneorg
