The David TurnbullAward

It is appreciated that attending theUK200Group Annual Conference is agreat contribution both in money butalso in time. In honour and memoryof David we would like to reduce thelevel of that contribution so thatpartners or potential partners ofmember firms who have notpreviously experienced a Conferencemay understand more fully thebenefits of membership and theethos of members and the Group.

The winners of the award last yearsaw this initiative as a very positiveexperience as you can see from thetestimonials received and to this endwe are offering a limited number of‘free places’ once again.(Free=Packages A, D, E, F, G)

In order to benefit from this awardyou must apply by close of businessFriday 16 September 2016 givingreasons why the individual might begranted this award.

The late David Turnbull, founder of theUK200Group, was a great believer thatmembers would really only get out of theUK200Group benefits in proportion to thecontribution they themselves made.

The applicant must be:

• From a member firm who havealready booked or will be sendingat least one paying delegate tothe 2016 Annual Conference

• A representative who has notpreviously attended the AnnualConference

• Prepared to send a shortsummary of how they enjoyed, benefited or otherwise fromattending the Conference

The application for the award mustbe accompanied by a maximum of50 words, as to why the individualshould be selected to attend underthe award.

There is no guidance as to what thecriteria might be – it could behumorous, technical, or tongue incheek but hopefully will demonstratethe UK200Group ethos andassociation benefit.

The number of places covered by the Award is limited and successfulapplicants will be advised by close of business onMonday 26 September 2016.

Entries should be sent to HelenaWhitford, by email [email protected] decision making process is in noway open to challenge, appeal orcomplaint in any way whatsoever butwill be made with the full knowledgeof the regulations set out in theBribery Act!

“The UK200Group Annual Conference exceeded allof my expectations. It was a great opportunity tomeet well-respected professionals in the field ofaccountancy and law. As part of the Group it isimportant to share the wealth of knowledgebetween each member firm – particularly learningeach others ways of dealing with challenges we allface in such a competitive market. The presentationsat the well-organised conference were professionaland insightful, yet thoroughly enjoyable. I cameaway feeling very satisfied. Thank you for giving methis opportunity to experience the conference, I feelvery privileged. I would certainly recommend theconference to other members. I am already lookingforward to my next one!” Joel Kara – Haslers

“I was a little apprehensive about attending my firstUK200Group conference, but I have to say, it was anexcellently organised and thoroughly enjoyableexperience. The speakers were all extremely engagingand relevant. I think the most rewarding part was thediscussion group where we had a chance to sharethoughts and ideas on the industry as a whole. Bestof all, was that every attendee was so welcoming andeasy to approach.” Michael Jacoby – Hillier Hopkins

“At the conference, I learnt that membership of theUK200Group is:1. Intended to be a mark of quality to potentialclients and recruits2. A means of exchanging information with like-minded firms so as to have access to fresh ideas andto be able to learn from others’ experiences.I had not really appreciated this before and I’m surethe new committee will be working to get thismessage across. I very much enjoyed the conference and meetingother professionals active in my field, which I don’toften get the opportunity to do.”Amanda Freeman – Myerson Solicitors“DAT Award meant that I could enjoy the experience

of the conference for the first time as a newlyappointed partner. The conference was informative, had great speakers and enabled me to understandand appreciate the support and contributions madeby UK200 and it’s members. I think that the mostbenefit is from the interaction with other membersattending the conference, allowing exchanges ofexperiences and developments within their practiceto be shared with others in an open and understandingforum. Thanks for the opportunity extended by theaward!” Stuart Dutton – Howard Worth

What our friends say...David Turnbull Award Winners

“Thank you for awarding me one of the places on the David TurnbullAward for the 2015 UK200Group conference. I was aware of thebenefits that being a UK200 member firm can bring and the conferencefurther strengthen my opinion. I found the formal discussion groupsand informal chats with fellow members both enjoyable andinformative. Every seminar was relevant to my work and the work ofour practice and I would not hesitate to recommend the conference toothers in the future.” Peter Dearing – Smailes Goldie

“I had a wonderful time at my first UK200GroupAnnual Conference. All the speakers were excellentand really entertaining. The discussion group wasreally helpful and I was impressed at how openeveryone was. The social side was great and I metlots of new friends who I hope I will be sharing adrink with at the 50th annual conference in 2035.I came away with a new respect for the work theUK200Group does and how it can benefit our firm.” Hilary Bevan – Baines Jewitt

“Thank you for an interesting and informative event. Itwas a pleasure to meet the other members of the groupand obtain a better understanding of their individualpractices and differing circumstances around thecountry. I was particularly impressed by theenthusiasm of the management board and the effortand dedication displayed. I look forward to returningnext year.” Victor Matts – Lodders Solicitors

“It was a super Conference. As ever, it was a greatnetworking forum and I made valuable accountant andlawyer connections. The presentations were also verytopical and relevant to my own firm and the breakoutsessions were excellent for sharing knowledge andexperience with fellow professionals facing similarchallenges. I even thought that I had mastered theblackjack but the money inevitably ran out!” Richard Gvero – Longmores Solicitors

As long term finance director of PriceBailey, one of our larger members,Charles has had the awkward task ofreporting financial outcomes andpredictions to roughly 25 CharteredAccountants, and others, at moreconferences than he cares toremember. Something approaching ahundred, he jokes. Price Bailey has along history of steady growth bothby acquisition and organically, despite occasional disposals. Thefirm has wide service offeringsincluding a small law practice,

working from diverse officesincluding rural Norfolk, the City ofLondon and overseas. Unusually, perhaps uniquely, the firm has allemployee ownership with almost 250shareholders in the holding company.Charles' powers of analysis will againbe thoroughly tested as he presentsthe results of the UK200 2016benchmarking survey.
