Transcript of SMART JEWEL by Christopher Grayson
NOTESFor the occasion of New York Fashion Week, on September 10, 2014,
Swissnex (Consulate of Switzerland) held a wearable technology lecture series and private party.
I was invited to speak. I chose to use this opportunity to take my company out of stealth
and reveal our first product, SMART JEWEL. I was joined by KOPIN.
NOTESBy the time I leave the stage I will take my company out of stealth and introduce our first product.
But first I’m going to talk to you for a moment about Smart Glasses & Smart Watches.
And I’m going to start by saying a few things about New York & Silicon Valley.
NOTESCompare the engineer focused culture of Silicon Valley to the Fashion & Design industry of NYC.
Make the case for the strategic advantage this gives NYC in the wearable tech space.
NOTESThis is Ivan Sutherland, in the mid-60s. He is wearing the world’s first head mounted video display.
Or as I like to think of it, the tech industry’s first attempt at fashionable wearable tech.
A half century later and there is still a lot of room for improvement.
NOTESIf you only keep an eye on one thing in Smart Glasses, watch KOPIN. Their PUPIL DISPLAY is the
world’s smallest micro-display & smallest optics module. It has the highest resolution for its size, the
lowest power consumption and the brightest display in its class. Samples available to the market in
Q4 of this year — and they have joined me here today … but I’m not making a pair of Smart Glasses.
NOTES
JEAN-CLAUDE BIVER
… and if you only listen to one voice in Smart Watches, listen to Jean-Claude Biver, President of
Jewelry & Fine Watches for LVMH. Tell the story of Jean-Claude leading the entire Swiss watch
industry back from the abyss, after the “quartz crisis.” The Swiss watch industry listens to Jean-
Claude regarding any industry threat, and you should too … but I’m not making a Smart Watch.
NOTES
65%of luxury watches sold
are for men.
GLOBAL
source:
In the international fine watch market, watches are overwhelmingly sold to men.
NOTES
of women do not wear a watch.

65%3 source:
This is also reflected in the U.S. watch market, where 63% of women do not wear a watch at all.

?projections on the size
of the wearable tech market.
… and what do we know about the wearables market?
Analysts projections of market size are all over the charts.
(I’ve read everything from $2B in five-years to $18B in three-years. Nobody has a clue.)
… but I will tell you something I do know …
NOTES
$76Bin jewelry sales
for 2014.
U.S.
source:
Jewelry is a mature $76B a year market right now … in the U.S. alone.
NOTESIntroducing the SMART JEWEL. Our first model is a pendant featuring engineered stones. An
emerald cut set between two baguettes, mounted on a stainless steel frame with 18k gold accents.
With similar alert notification features as a Smart Watch …
NOTESShown here with a coin for scale, the SMART JEWEL solves the “purse problem,” where most
women carry their smart-phone in their purse, and must check it periodically to see if they’ve missed
messages or calls, or to check for notifications.
NOTESThe SMART JEWEL has a discreet edge display on the top, hidden behind the gems for privacy,
where the user can privately view notifications from her favorite applications, with a glance.
Perfect for social or business situations.
We will be ready for market by Valentines Day 2015.
