INTRODUCTION

The thought of developing this project comes from social responsibility towards thesociety. As we can see many accidents occurring around us, there is a lot of loss of life.According to a survey of India there are around 698 accidents occurring due to bike crashesper year. The reasons for the accidents may be many such as no proper driving knowledge,no fitness of the bike, rash driving, drink and drive etc. In some cases the person injured theaccident may not be directly responsible for the accident, it may be fault of some other rider,but end of the day it’s both the drivers involved in the accidents who is going to suffer.If accidents are one issue, lack of treatment in proper time is another reason for deaths.According to the same survey if 698 accidents occur per year, nearly half the injured peopledie due to lack of treatment in proper time. The reasons for this may again be many such aslate arrival of ambulance, no person at place of accident to give information to theambulance.This is what is running situation in our day to day life, a thought of finding somesolution to this problem come up with this idea of giving the information about accident assoon as possible and in TIME….!!!!Because after all time matters a lot, if everything isdone in time, at least we can save half the lives that are lost due to bike accidents.So, a thought from taking responsibility of society came oProviding safety to a person while riding the bike is of primeconcern. One of the way to do this is by making it mandatoryto wear

helmet while riding a bike. This is difficult toimplement as every time the concerned people can’t keep aneye on everybody. So detecting whether the driver has worna helmet or not, as well whether he has consumed alcohol ornot is the main problem. The system what we have plannedto design provides solution to this problem. The systemmakes it mandatory for the rider to wear helmet before starting the vehicle and also he shouldn’t have consumedalcohol. If the rider fails to do so then the vehicle cannot bestarted. This system also provides security to the vehicle asevery bike will have an unique helmet and without which aperson fails to start that particular bike. This project includesa helmet body and an integrated electronic system disposedin the helmet body. It is operated through a wireless controlsystem. The components of the electronic system aresufficiently small and rugged for use in the helmet, ensuringthat the helmet is lightweight and durable. The reasons for the accidents may be many such as no proper driving knowledge, damaged bikes, rash driving, „drink

and drive‟ etc. But the major reason was found to be the absence of helmet on that person‟s head, resulting in an immediate death due to brain damage. Hence the prime objective of our paper is to force the rider to wear the helmet throughout the ride. So, this sense of moral responsibility towards the society, laid the foundation of our project “Smart Helmet.” So the basic idea for developing this project “Smart Helmet” is taken from & the basic idea about the working of Arduino nano microcontroller is taken from And the further more detailing regarding the functionality of each and every hardware and the software components used are such as Radio transceiver is taken from and information and working of Ultrasonic sensor from The main component or the microcontroller used, that is Arduino nano. The working principles and the circuit connections etc are taken from the referencesThus, these are all the references helping the development of the project.
