SMART GOALS – MEASURABLE
“If you can’t measure it, you can’t manage it” There must be a practical and reliable
way to measure accomplishing the goal Establish concrete criteria for measuring
progress and completion of the goal
SMART GOALS
SMART GOALS – ATTAINABLE A goal needs to be a slight stretch
It must be achievable, but It should require a real commitment to get
done
Setting Attainable goals helps keep people motivated
SMART GOALS
SMART GOALS – RELEVANT
The GOAL must be important to the organization and in alignment with it’s mission and vision
The persons for which the goal is set must have the ability to make the change or impact
SMART GOALS
SMART GOALS – TIME BOUND
Time Bound includes a START as well as an END date
SMART GOALS
Clarification point: Setting goals is not planning a
project Beware of getting caught up in the
tactical details Stay on point, one goal, and only
one goal at a time Don’t set goals that have an
automatic result
