Welcome....................................................................................................................................As Elders, we believe that following Jesus happens best when we are actively engaged in other people’s lives. It is in relationship that our faith is truly shaped and sharpened.

We hope that our Small Group programme will provide an opportunity to do just that and build community amongst us in all sorts of ways. In particular, we hope that you will:

Make New Friends and Deepen Relationships As we grow in numbers, small groups will help relationships to flourish and everyone to feel that they belong.

Learn Something New The choice of topics provides flexibility in activities and formats, so that, no matter where you are on your faith journey, we hope there is a place for you.

Grow Closer to God As we meet, have fun, learn and share our lives together we hope that Jesus will become ever more authentic to us all.

This booklet gives an overview of the year ahead and information about what we offer beyond our Sunday meetings. There is a list of contents and some FAQs to help you make your choice, and, at the back of the book, there is information on how to get involved.

Our groups and activities support the vision of the church, which is to share the love of God with those whom we live and work amongst and with the wider world. They reflect the diversity of King’s and are made up of people from all ages and stages of life. Some meet in homes, others at the church building and they range from prayer groups to activity groups like Stitch & Chatter, and Care Services to offer support to the local community.

Some groups are open so that you can join them at any time. Others will run for 11-12 weeks and require you to sign up. For these groups we ask that you commit to attend for all the weeks planned.

So, whether you are new to King’s or a long-standing member, have a look through this guide and enjoy finding a group that is a strong fit for you.

Frequently Asked Questions.................................................................................................................................

When do the groups start and finish?Unless indicated, groups will start in their usual locations during w/c Monday 24th September, and run mostly for 10 weeks, finishing during w/c Monday 11th December, with a break for half term if preferred.

How do I choose a group that is right for me?You are free to choose a group by location, activity or focus or leader of the group. We hope there is something for everyone. Leaders will be available during the sign-up period to give more details. Some groups have a limited number of spaces, so sign up quickly!

Does everyone have to attend a group?Sundays and Small Groups are the heart of life at King’s, so we would love everyone to be part of a group.

What am I signing up to?The sign-up is for one term at a time. But for groups to develop friendships and grow in faith together, we encourage everyone to attend each session, if possible, for the weeks the group is running. At the end of the term you have the option to sign up again if the group is continuing, take a break or change to a new group for the next term.

What happens after I’ve signed up?The Group Leader will contact you to confirm the details of start date, when and where the group will meet and to welcome you into the group.

Can I join a group part way through the term? Most groups will not be open after the second week, but a few groups will remain open all term so that new people can get involved at any stage.

Can I join more than one group? You’re free to join more than one group but we do ask that you make a commitment to attend all the meetings of each group.

I’m interested in leading a group next term. What should I do?Please talk with Paul Thomas or Kathy Nussbaum or email [email protected] about your next steps.

Vision.....................................................................................................................................

“Sharing the love of God both with each other and the world”

Spirituality

The Christian life is a journey towards maturity in Christ - one that we travel together, in relationship with Jesus and obedience to Him, modelling our lives on His.

FamilyAll are valued and all are welcome. Relationships are what hold and build people together. To us, family is not just “2.4” but young and old, singles and couples, children and adults.

Mission

We aim to demonstrate and declare God’s extravagant love both to the people we live amongst and work with and also to those in other nations.

MISSION - Care and Support Abroad.....................................................................................................................................

The Great Commission was initiated when Abraham was told that he was blessed so he could be a blessing to the nations. Jesus reasserted this in Matthew 28 by telling His disciples (us) to go and make disciples of all peoples. It was amplified in Acts 1 as the church was told to be His witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria and to the ends of the earth - start local, move out global. As you can see from the boxes below, we are involved in three countries at the moment but our heart is to extend God’s kingdom into other nations in the days to come.

King’s Church Ghana (Edward and Mary Odame)Having studied in the UK over 30 years ago, Edward and Mary returned to their native Ghana where they now lead the vibrant Kings Church Ghana. Their heart is for evangelism and for local church, and they also lead various inter-denominational groups, Bible Schools and a radio ministry.

Every Life (Timothy and Anna Kalliballa)Timothy and Anna live and work in Kampala, Uganda with Every Life (formerly Revelation Life). Timothy is a Ugandan national and works tirelessly in some of Kampala’s slum communities. Anna is mum to Jonathan and works one day a week with the social side of a family rehabilitation centre.

18

Every Life (James and Julie Knight)James and Julie are part of the Every Life team who work in disadvantaged urban communities in Kam-pala and now London. Julie is a social worker, dealing with the many issues that daily arise in slums, while James heads up Media and Communications.

God calls us as Christians to ‘love your neighbour as yourself ’ (through His word in Matthew 22: 37-38). We believe that this is a call to action and that we should be compassionate and loving and offer practical help wherever we can. We try to be that and serve our local community and the nations through the Care Services that are outlined on the following pages.

If you would like to volunteer to serve with one of our Care Services, please contact us via [email protected].
