This group will inform students of what bullying is, how one becomes a bully, how to prevent from becoming a bully. Along with, strategies how prevent from getting bullied.

Session #1: (title) Getting Started

Description: (Specific purpose of this particular group session)

The purpose of this session is to allow the students to meet each other in a nonjudgmental environment. This will allow for the students to open up further on as the sessions go on.

Procedure: (Brief Explanation of what will occur in this session)

This session will all the students to open up to each other while introducing themselves. This session will create a judgment free zone as well as a trusting environment. Students will also understand how important confidentiality as in group sessions.

a. M&M Game – Students will grab a handful of M&Ms and based on the colors they received they have to answer those questions

b. Green- Share your favorite hobbies

c. Red- Have you ever moved before? If yes, then where else have you lived. If no, then tell use one thing you like about your hometown.

d. Yellow- Share one fun thing you did this summer

e. Brown- Share about your favorite foods

f. Blue- Share about your favorite type of movies/books.

g. Orange- WILD CARD – Share anything you’d like!

Session #2: What is Bullying?

Description: (Specific purpose of this particular group session)

1. This session is to explain what bullying is and what it is not.

2. To show students an example of bullying

3. To show students that anyone can be a bully and become a bully

Procedure: (Brief Explanation of what will occur in this session)

Students will watch a short video clip of a bullying situation. After the video we will discuss what bullying is and what bullying is not. We will talk about if standing by watching someone getting bullied is participating in the act. After this discussion counselor will ask students to share personal stories if they have been the bully or have been bullied.

Session #3: Different Types of Bullying

Description: (Specific purpose of this particular group session)

1. Students will learn the different types of bullying

a. This will allow them to better understand and recognize when bullying is happening on all platforms

Activity 1: Show/explain the 4 types of bullying to students. Then handout worksheet “Four Types of Bullying” ask students to fill in what they think each type is. Afterwards discuss what they chose. Once gone over the right answers talk about how they would prevent each type. Ask students “What would you do?”

Session #4: Understanding Roles

Description: (Specific purpose of this particular group session)

The purpose of this session is to show each student what it feels like to be a bystander, ally, and perpetrator in a bullying situation.

Read several scenario cards and have each child act out each scenario.

After each scenario have the students talk about how each part made them feel.

Continue to act out scenarios until each child has tried all three parts.

Session #5: Positive Self-Talk

Description: (Specific purpose of this particular group session)

The purpose of this session is to show students everyone has something positive and good about themselves no matter what people say. This session will also help students who have low self-esteem and low self-worth.

1. Counselor will talk about what is self-acceptance and what is self-esteem

2. Students will list time when other people have said something positive or something negative about them.

3. Students will discuss if they feel what was positively or negatively said about them is true why or why not.

4. Students will read the “Building Self-Acceptance through Positive Self-Talk” handout.

5. Students will then read these lines out loud

a. “I am a good and caring person and deserve to be treated with respect.”

b. “I am capable of achieving success in my life.”

c. “There are people who love me and will be there for me when I need them.”

d. “I deserve to be happy.”

e. “I am allowed to make mistakes and learn from them.”

6. Students will then finish the worksheets with the appropriate answers.

Session #6: The Pledge

Description: (Specific purpose of this particular group session)

The purpose of this session is to successfully end the 6 sessions with ease.

Students will be asked to sign an anti-bullying pledge. Students will be asked if they have anything else they’d like to share since this will be

the last session. Students will be asked to share their experience and knowledge about bullying with

others and encourage friends to sign the pledge as well.
