The ChallengeIn 2005, Zanella and Associates began to reevaluate its business model. The pricing requirements of its customers were decreasing the company’s profit-ability, but after twelve years in business, Zanella was not ready to close or sell. “I needed to create a new business model that would provide a more effective way to manage our human resource costs,” says Diane Bell, a Certified Healthcare Billing and Management Executive and owner of Zanella and Associates. The ChallengeWith administrative offices and manufac-turing facilities located at opposite ends of its 1.1 million square foot complex, Pennsylvania Breaker required a way to create a seamless work environment. “Our manufacturing employees needed access to the ERP and email applications located on servers in the main office. But wiring the two facilities to create a local area network was not feasible and creating a VPN was too resource-intensive,” explains Terry Felt, Manager of Information Systems at Pennsylvania Breaker. Setting up a VPN required the company to set up servers, install a security solution, build a firewall, and invest in hardware. “We needed a simpler, more cost-effective solution to bridge the physical distance between our facilities and our employees, until we relocate our offices in the future,” he says.
