Camp Leader Brian Founder of the camp, Brian Hurst, just finished the MA Applied Economics program at SJSU. Although his major is in economics, he has always enjoyed the sciences. In fact, the critical thinking he learned from the sciences lead him to economics. As a child he participated in Astronomy Club, NASA field trips, FSEA (Future Scientists and Engineers of America), and the GATE program in his schools. At that time, his favorite subject was space. Since high school Brian has developed a passion and enthusiasm for teaching children, and has continued his passion for the sciences. During school, she worked in the university’s microbiology lab as a research assistant, and became published as a co-author for her work with Caulobacter. She has had enthusiasm for science all of her life as well. In elementary school she built a hydroelectric generator for her science fair project. She also participated in the GATE Program, as well as several science camps. Her favorite subject was Anatomy. In high school and early college, Jennifer coached children’s gymnastics courses. In recent years she has played the role of assistant instructor for beginners level kids’ classes at Silva Martial Arts.
