Dear Parents/Caregivers Home Reading Home reading has now been running for 3 weeks for students in Years 1-3. This year’s theme is “Reading is out of this World”. The students will be reading their way to each planet and receiving a certificate once they have reached each planet in the solar system. Please ask the questions inside the cover of the books being read to increase your child’s comprehension. Students in years 3-6 sit a Lexile test. If they receive a score of 400 or above, they will be reading books from the Lexile program instead of home reading and sitting the online quizzes. Use the attached link to sit quizzes from home; https://educator-slz04.scholasticlearningzone.com/auth/intl/Login/AUSC9GR
PPP – Positive Parenting Program Last week parents attended the second in a series of three seminars being presented by CPC Psychologist Tonia Fahey. They were given tips and ideas to help raise happy and confident kids; see more of the behaviours they like and less of the ones they don’t; and have better relationships with their families. Please join us for the third and final seminar in this series, on Thursday 7
th March at 9am in the Boardroom.
Parent Information Meetings One of the priorities in the new Business Plan 2019-2021
is to create a cohesive community. Our aim is to cultivate
positive and respectful relationships among students,
teachers and parents, supporting you to take active roles
in the school and your child’s education. Attending our
Parent Information Meetings are one of the many ways
you will be offered to support your child’s education
throughout the year. Thank you to all the parents that
showed an interest in your child’s learning by attending
these sessions. I encourage you to touch base regularly
with your child’s teacher and make an appointment if you
have any concerns or queries about your child’s learning.

VISION: "Developing the whole child.” MISSION: Academic and Civic excellence built on a strong foundation of quality teaching, inspired by rich cultural diversity.
Voluntary Contributions I encourage families to contribute a voluntary contribution to enable our school to provide a quality learning environment for our students. Contributions are set and ratified by the School Board each year. The 2019 contribution of $55 for the year equates to the tiny amount of $1.37 per week or 27c per day. Purchasing of new equipment, games, puzzles and books rely upon the commitment and generosity of our parent/carer community through voluntary contributions. Those families who pay their contributions by the end of Term
1, will go into the draw to win one of five family passes to the movies.
Business Plan 2019-2021 Draft Our Business Plan outlines our school’s broad
strategies, targets and milestones to achieve
improvement in student outcomes over the next three
years. This plan has been developed by, and in
consultation with, the Warriapendi community; staff,
students, parents and the School Board. Our Business
Plan outlines three Priorities; We are excellent at
Teaching and Learning, We Develop Student
Engagement and Wellbeing, We Create a Cohesive
Community. This plan will be in draft for six months.
Parents and Carers will receive a copy of the published
document once it has been reviewed and ratified by the
School Board. I look forward to sharing this important
document with you in the upcoming newsletters.

Jess Marino My name is Miss Marino. I am the Pre Primary teacher and I have been teaching for three years. Before becoming a teacher, I worked in childcare, was a dance teacher and a gymnastics coach, so I have always had a passion for teaching. Both my parents are Italian so I love cooking and of course eating. My favourite foods are pizza, pasta and chocolate. I love travelling back to Italy to visit my family and exploring new places around Europe. I am very excited to be getting married in the April school holiday, so as of Term 2 I will be Mrs Boron. If you haven’t already met me, please feel free to pop into the Pre-Primary for a chat.
Candis Duffy My name is Candis Duffy and I am the Kindy Teacher. Before I became a teacher, I worked in a hospital as a Health Information Manager. I have also been a Dental Nurse and had my own business. I have always wanted to be a teacher and really love what I do. I also enjoy spending time with my family, we enjoy travelling and stand up paddle boarding. I have a 21 year old son who loves cars and go karts and an 18 year old daughter who is studying nursing. The most important member of our family is our very spoilt dog Henry. He loves cuddles and walks in the park. My favourite food is coffee (not really a food) and chocolate. I enjoy cooking and going for long walks with Mr Duffy. I look forward to seeing you all around the school this year.
Un-paid billing item reminders were sent home with students on Monday25th February. This is a reminder that school contributions can be paid at the office. We accept Eftpos, cash and direct debit. School contributions from parents and carers further benefit and support the range of educational programs and activities and the purchase of educational materials. We thank you if you have already contributed to the school.
The last few weeks I have attended the Positive Parenting Program run by the Child Parent Centre in our school. It took me back to when my kids were toddlers and I was a young parent. How helpful it was to have access to learning about being the best parent that I could be for my children! We all want the best for our kids and sometimes we need to add to our skill set to help grow our kids into who they are meant to be. Kids need to learn how to communicate well, manage their emotions and do their best, with confidence, if they are to be well-adjusted. This program is a great way to learn some new parenting tips, meet other parents doing the same thing and its free! I hope you can put some time aside to invest in your family and come along to the next few sessions where we can have a cuppa and chat about the best (and hardest) job in the world – being a parent! This week I will not be at school on Thursday as I will be attending the special assembly on Friday 8
th March
and hope to see you there!
Congratulations to the following students who have received a Merit Award at the Room 6 Assembly.
ROOM STUDENTS
PP Room 2 Carlos, Gurfateh, Michael
Room 4 Claire, Ella, Jevon
Room 5 Paige, Geizlee
Room 7 Victory, Agamveer
Room 8 Chase, Yusef
Room 9 Kingston, Isla, Charlee
Room 6 have started off the year by exploring their reading fluency skills and presenting the popular readers
theatre item, Aladdin, at the first assembly for 2019. The Year three and four students used their reading
expression to take the audience on a magic carpet ride through pristine palaces, dangerous dungeons and
exotic faraway places. The students demonstrated confidence when reading aloud the script with fluency and
expression. For the remainder of Term 1, the teachers and student leaders will be recognising students
demonstrating confidence when in the playground and inside the classroom. These students will be put in a
draw to receive a prize at each assembly and working towards their crown wrist band.
This term in the Science lab, our theme is 'Earth and Space Science'. The Year 5/6 class were investigating the four layers of the Earth. They peeled an apple to get an idea of how thick the crust of the Earth is. The crust is the part we live on! They then created 'magma', using cornflour and water. Magma is found in the mantle. The Year 3/4 class are looking at how the Earth rotates in one day and the position of the sun. We are all enjoying discovering interesting facts about our planet and the other planets of our solar system. Remember: "My Very Excited Mother Just Served Us Noodles".......
FACTION CAPTAINS: Jevon, Ella, Abdul
STUDENT COUNCILLORS: Kenny, Arpan , Shenae, Ella
On Friday 22nd
February, we had 8
Year six students nominate and
prepare speeches to help them get
elected as a Student Councillor or
Faction Captain for the year. I am
very proud of all our candidates and
commend them for showing courage
and commitment. Congratulations to
our winners and I look forward to
working with them throughout the
year. Being a leader at Warriapendi
means that they will model the
CROWN values and assist their
fellow students to develop these
values.

Please join us for our Room 4 Harmony Day Assembly at 8:40am to celebrate the many cultures in our school. Students and families are invited to join us in their cultural dress or to wear orange to mark the celebration (orange is the colour of Harmony Day). We will have a cultural parade in the assembly so that students can share their traditional dress.
