How else should we sensitize men from raping women? Is there a way out? Slut-walk is aprotest. Do not go by the name or what the women wears.

Namaskar! To one and all present here.

Today, I Anika Agarwal stands before you to speak against the motion- SLUTWALKS ARE NOT

    THE FUTURE OF FEMINISM.

Slut-walk has become the global phenomenon to protest against the sexual violence when thepolice officer in Toronto gave the outrage by stating in a speech to the university students thatwomen should avoid dressing like sluts, to avoid being victimized.

Slut-walk have a clear and simple message- women can do what they want, wear what they like

and no one has right to say her anything. This will not stop the molestation but this doesnt meanthat we should stay silent and watch it happen. Ever since we have started the campaign morepeople have shown interest in understanding the problem.

The blogger recently posted- this is the most successful feminist action over the past 20 years.

The slut-walk has cropped up and is fueled up with the raw emotional and political energy in the

young women. We are witnessing a new day in the feminist organization. One when, womenanger begins online and takes it to the street when one local step makes a global wave and onewhen feminist action can spark the debate, controversy, it will surely have a lasting effects on themovement.

Lets take an example- a teenaged backward caste girl was allegedly rapped by the BSP MLAPurushottam Naresh Dwidedi and later on the case was declared as FAKE.

In Germany, a 14 year old girl was raped in the middle of the street with the people walking pasther. She asked for help but no one came to her and they walked past her and left her alone.

Recently Gul Panag had made a cutting statement- its difficult being a woman in Delhi. As inthe marathon, she was touched by a man in a hurried stampede.

What kind of world are we living in right now? There is no respect for women. They are still being

treated as slaves. India is considered to be the fourth most dangerous country for women to livein!

What if you are raped? What if you are abused? What if you are assaulted? Be prepared for theexcuses that people will make for the men who did this and be prepared for your character comeinto question because thats the country we are living in right now.!

One of the students joined the campaign and she says, Im here because I am tired of beingjudged by the people for what I wear and how I look and the assumptions that people make out of

    it.

The slut-walk in outfits that could be grumpily labeled indecent and ridiculous is not inducingthe exclusions from the respectable society. They are generating excitement, turning their angerinto action and trying to change the supposedly respectable society into the one which respectsmen, women and yes even the sluts.

For all those people out there, who definitely think slut-walk is not the future of feminism here aresome questions:

We promise to stop the slut-walk. We promise to stop the protest. But do you promise to stopabusing us? Do you promise to stop raping us? Do you promise to make a society a better placeto lie in? Think about it or else the cause will just be in the name with the NO EFFECT.

    THANK YOU!!
