Founded in 1989 by Carlo Petrini and a group of his gastronomic friends in Italy

Formed in response to the despair felt by these men who were offended by the

1986 installation of a McDonald’s near the Spanish Steps, one of Rome’s most

historical landmarks

A small but dedicated group of food writers, chefs,

foodies etc got together and joked about opposing fast food with Sloooow

Food....and so a movement was

'born’!!!!!

– Learn to make processed foods from scratch; such as pasta, cheeses, soups, ice cream and bread

– Be willing to fail – follow a new recipe exactly and use good recipes from classic cookbooks – then learn to experiment.

Eat with the Seasons in Mind

Buy Organic Foods when possible

Buy local Meats (beef and lamb) and local poultry, eggs and pork

that has been raised on real food themselves
