Definition:

• Slope decribes the line on the coordinate planes steepness or its incline. Slope can be described as rise over run. This means that you rise up (Y-axis) then run over(X-axis). You can also locate the slope of a graph by looking at slope-intercept form.

• Slope intercept form is y=Mx+B. The “m” is the slope in the equation

• Lets say you had the equation y=3x + 2. The 3 would be the slope, because if you look at the equation whatever is before the “x” is the slope.

Positive Slope!• Positive slope is when the line on the coordinate

plane goes from bottom left to the top right corner.

Most trucks have this particular slant on their car!

Roofs have many different slopes. It is the way they are made(:

The road here has a positive slope as it goes up a hill

This mountain has a positive slope!(:

The bicycle has a positive slope on one of the connecting parts(:

These flowers have a positive slope as they grow toward sunlight(:

• Negative slope is when the line on the graph descends from top left, to bottom right!

Negative Slope!

The mountain has a descending slope on its right

This is a staircase, it also has a negative slope.

This particular building was built with a negative slope.

This coat hanger has a slant so clothes won’t fall off.

The skateboard ramp is built so skaters can skateboard down them.

Slides have a negative slope so you can slide down them!(:

Zero (horizontal) Slope • Zero Slope is where the line in the coordinate

plane goes straight across. A street sign has no slope. It is horizontal on the top and bottom.

Shelves are a great example because they are horizontal.(:

This brick wall goes straight across.

The top and bottom of a fence has no slope The top of the truck

bed has zero slope.

The horizon has 0 slope because the horizon is a straight line across.

Undefined (vertical) Slope. • Undefined slope is where the line goes straight up

and down on the coordinate plane.

The street light has a vertical slope down the middle to provide support.

These chair legs are straight up and down. This also provides support for the chair.

The sides of the door have an undefined slope.

This camera has vertical edges!

Most picture frames have vertical edges like this one.

This wall has a vertical side to hold the wall together.

Steeper Slope • This means it can be a positive or negative slope

that is closer to the y-axis than to the x-axis.

The stairs on the left are steep!

All big rollercoasters usually have big steep slopes you go down.

This picture is a car going down a steep hill. This hill is going in a positive direction.

This roof has a steep slope on the top, where the design is.

On the mountain the steep positive slope is on the left .

This is an example of negative slope. The trees are slanted to show you how its is steep.

Flatter Slope. • Flatter slope can be also positive or negative, but

it is closer to the x-axis rather than the y-axis.

This sink faucet has a flat slope

The edge of this vase has a flat slope.

The top of the stockings hanging from the mantle are tilted at a flatter slope.

The way the plane is tilted when flying up in the sky is a flat, negative slope.

These mountains have a flatter slope than steep mountains located elsewhere.

This golf green has a flat, downhill slope.
